Glad you liked the "good walk spoiled". I walk 99.9% of my rounds and after a year and a half I bought a clicgear 3.0 and haven't looked back. I do carry when the ground is super saturated and it would be a PITA to push a cart, but that is rare. The only annoyance is not being able to walk across the green with bag in tow like you can when you carry.

Jetnicks, see you have done the walk already, good stuff. Not sure how much you play away however the hillier the course the more likely I am to carry, it seems easier. Like Riveira, out here in Australia we have kikuyu fairways, pain in the asre to push your buggy uphill through that stuff in the middle of summer.

Make sure you stay hydrated. Bring some water and have a few sips on each tee.

Stay nourished, too. Bring some energy food like trail mix or energy bars and have a few bites on every third or fourth tee.

I made sure to drink plenty of Powerade but I neglected to bring any food and I'm sure that had alot to do with my fading the last few holes.

I agree with the above, except for the part I bolded. The general rule of thumb (and this is from studies you can read online, in addition to anecdotes from people who have used odomoters - search for the threads if you're interested) is to double the scorecard yardage to get total yardage walked. That's because in addition to the walks from green to tee, you also need to consider:

- walking from bag to tee box, back to bag... walking from bag to green, back to bag

- pacing around the green marking the ball, replacing the ball, eyeballing the putt, etc.

- not walking in a straight line unless you never miss a fairway or green

- helping playing partners find their lost balls

- trips to the bathroom, or clubhouse at the turn

I've probably forgot some but you get the idea.

Used a pedometer most of last season and found walking 18 to be 6.5-8 miles depending on the course.  Walked and carried all of last season without much of a problem.  As the weather gets better, I walk 4-5 miles 3-4 days a week plus playing 18 1-2 times.  Once I get over the winter layoff, I feel just as good on 18 as I did on one.

In my Bagboy cart bag:

That's alot of miles. My wife & I are have started walking a few days a week and I plan on walking a good bit this year, except when summer really hits and it's hot as hell out there.

I always walk, recently switched to a trolley from Carrying though and while I am in good shape this has made a massive difference to my game so far, just seem fresher coming up the stretch.

So if you have not walked for 15 years then a trolley is a must I say

I always walk, just started playing after an 11 year lay off and still walk.  I always carry, less distance around the greens and traps, and I find that pushing/pulling a cart tightens up my shoulders and arms a bit.  I personally can't understand someone riding unless you have a health problem, and if you walk it may aid with some of those problems.  I see young guys in their 20's riding all the time, more $$$ than they now what to do with I guess.  One other note did you know your legs are your 2 biggest blood pumps next to your heart, you loose the use of your legs you can be guaranteed your on your way to the grave a whole lot sooner, something to ponder
