Okay so here I am again. Basically played no golf in 5 months as its my second sport behind cricket and i find it hard to get out with study/work etc..

Seems like every time it gets to golf season for me, I have to start from scratch. I have no memories of my swing from the previous season.

I am a little sick of having to start over as such, but understand if im not putting in the time then i wont see results.

Where does one start?

I have battled a slice from opening up at impact to much/coming over the top.

Battled hitting behind the ball/ weight staying back

Had some success with Stack n Tilt principles eg- cleaner striking, less fat shots

Do i go straight to a lesson, without having built a repeatable swing? Or practice some fundamentals for a bit first?

I had the same problem this spring. COULD NOT get my swing in order. Inconsistant driving and very bad iron play plagued me. I picked up Ben Hogans 5 Lessons book and it helped me alot with me swing/ball striking. If you havent read it, leave now and get a copy.

It might be a good idea to start out with lessons or find a book or dvd series giving you a good idea of what you want your swing to look like and what to feel for when you start up again.  Once you have the basis mechanics of your swing, hit the range and hit day and night... practice, practice, practice.

Get some lessons.  I haven't played for a few months because of the weather but when I start up again this season I will know what to practice to get my swing back in shape.  I wouldn't have a clue where to start if I didn't have a method learned from a good instructor.
