Anyone here ever played in a 2 man or 4 man, best ball/scramble, and felt useless to their team? Well hell if I didn't today… I played like shitake today, and really felt like I wasn't contributing to my teams score, even though I was trying! The guys I was playing with weren't even that good. I was just THAT bad… Two of them were supposedly lower handicaps than I was, but I knew I could play better than them. And the other guy was a higher handicap than I am currently. They all played decent, and we finished -5 for the tournament, but I just felt like I hadn't help at all to get that number. Im definitely in a bit of a slump right now. Just came off playing some of my best golf ever last month, but the last two weeks have just been horrid for me. Needless to say I felt pretty demoralized today, and frustration would be a severe understatement. Its a pretty crappy feeling to play in a team event and not feel like a "team player."

And a yellow ball.

That's a terrible feeling when you feel like you can't contribute anything to your teem. I played a friendly two-on-two scramble several months ago. Off of the putting green, I think my partner hit about 85% of the shots we played, and (supposedly) he was pretty much right around my skill level. I was very mad at myself afterward. Those days (or weeks, or months) happen. You just have to go back to the fundamentals of your swing, practice, and identify and crush whatever bad habit is creeping in. Or, like I did, just overhaul your entire swing. :-D

I only play best ball with friends. cause there is no pressure. I have played in a best ball tourney before and we got paired up according to handicap. good handicap with a bad handicap. so it was kind of even. I, at the time, was the bad handicap. so I felt miserable and felt like I didn't do anything to help. Since then, I haven't entered any best ball tourneys. It is fun playing with some friends, but relying on a stranger, that's a lot of pressure.

In a scramble, you can never be useless. Even when I wasnt the best, I served a purpose in my group.

If I played with 2 long hitters that could be a bit wild, I always went 2nd so if the first guy screwed up, we always had my shot down the middle as a safety net so the 3rd guy could try to crush it.

When putting, even if you are off, you can give the others a read on the green.

I played in a blind draw 2 man best ball a couple of weeks ago. Had one of my worst rounds in 2 years. I played one hole smart, using the 2 strokes I had to my advantage. We ended up taking 2nd place. My only contribution was that hole, but without it we wouldve been out of the money.

If you put it this way, it all sounds good. I don't remember it quite like this though. haha.
