So I just watched a rebroadcast of Stacy Lewis holing out the 18th hole at the Kraft Nabisco where she was almost immediately met by a group of friends who proceeded to douse her with champagne - right on the green!  Courses treat their greens with such reverence that I was kind of surprised they would allow a champagne shower - I'm assuming that won't do any damage???

Also, did you hear that Lewis's mom broker her leg on the leap into the Poppie's Pond - ouch!

Enough places allow the spraying of champagne (or beer, at the old Michelob tournament) that I can only conclude it really doesn't cause much of a problem.

Well beer shouldn't have much of an affect on grass, if anything, it could be used as fertilizer. Get rid of bad bugs, and after all, you use yeast to make beer.  Beer is pretty much grass, or herbs, that ferment a long time to taste delicious.

I haven't found anything on champagne and its affects on grass, but I wouldn't think it would be bad.  But, I don't know.

Champagne is just water, fermented grape juice and sugar.  Alcohol content isn't that high so can't believe it would hurt a golf green.  Same with beer. As a matter of fact, I had a lawn book that suggested spraying (watered down) beer on your lawn to help get rid of "thatch".  A microbiologist friend couldn't figure out why that would speed the decomposition process so we drank the beer instead.

And yes, that was bizarre with the Mom.  Worse yet is that she was training for a marathon.  I've done some marathons while injured but a broken leg would be just a tad too difficult to manage.
