I won my clubs match play tournament today. I won it by one hole. Woulda won it by more but I had to give my opponent a few more strokes than I should have, and he killed me with them. But it all worked out in the end. Im super pumped right now!!!! 72 holes of golf, four rounds, four opponents, and won it on #18! Man, my nerves were shot coming down the back stretch. I was down by 1 after#15, sunk a huge putt on #16 to keep it at one, got even on #17 and won it on #18! This was my first experience with match play, and it was a great experience, lots of fun. But I have to say… Giving up strokes in match play is ridiculous! God that makes it hard! Especially if you're not playing your absolute best…

Congrats! I agree w/giving strokes, especially in match play. I had a bit of a rant about that very subject a while back.

      We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
