quick question for everyone, just wondering your thoughts and so forth. I have changed my driver stance setup, grip, and swing and seem to be able to hit the ball straight and pretty far 240-260 depending on the quality of the strike. also I am hitting pretty close to the center of the club, might be off 1/2 inch to an inch but relativly on center. My three wood I can make good contact with , hit it about 225 on a good hit but I am not that consistant and accurate with it also I tend to put a big fade, borderline slice, or push it. My questions and thought would be getting a high lofeted driver 12.5-14ish cutting it down to 40/42 inches or so and replacing my 3-wood with it. I'm just worried about being too long with it, however I think the bigger head would be easier to hit and more forgiving.  after my 3wood I have an 18 degree hybrid that I can hit 210-220 when I hit it good. so I'm looking to fill the gap

I like the idea.     Only thing I might do is look for an older Howitzer or Bertha driver with the smaller (<400 cc) head - still much bigger than a 3W head ... they're dirt cheap on ebay & you wouldn't be out much $$ if it didn't work out

As mentioned above, if you are going to do this you better find an older driver or one with a shallower face. Drivers made today are not built to be hit from the fairway, so even a higher lofted version will be a challenge to hit.

Good point - I was assuming it would only be used from the tee box.    Not sure if an older smaller headed driver would be effective off the fairway or not (only one way to find out ...)

ya wasn't thinking about the driver off the fairawy, should of mentioned this when I posted. I usually do not hit the three off the deck I mostly use my 18 hybrid so this whould not be an issue just looking more for the tee box

You might want to take a look at the Titleist 910Fd, it's a fairway wood designed to be hit off the tee with choice of 13.5* and 15* loft.
