Hello!

I have decided that it's time to put a set the old set of Dunlop LoCo's and upgrade. I'm not to sure what to get, I tried a set of TaylorMade Burner's last year, but unfortunately I don't recall their specifics. I have a budget of around $450, and I'm looking for a lot of suggestions and feedback on what I should look at getting.

Now onto the putter, I also have no idea what to get. I really dislike those traditional putters (the skinny ones), and am looking for a "heavier" putter.

All help will be appreciated!

Thanks.

Their top recommendation was the White Ice 2-Ball C/S, at $199.99 it's a tad pricey for me. But Odyssey putters are pretty darn nice, I'll have to check that one out at GolfTown and try out a few more Odyssey's.

Last year's irons - especially the cast versions - are typically marked down considerably at this time of year.  What type of irons are you looking for?  Blades?  Game improvement?  Hybrid irons?

I'm not sure what you mean by traditional or skinny putter, but check out your golf shop.  They'll have a ton of putters in all shapes and sizes, and a variety of weights.

Check the Callaway Pre-owned website.  As long as you're not set on getting a brand new putter, they offer very good pricing: http://www.callawaygolfpreowned.com/putters-white-ice-2-ball-center-shaft/putters-white-ice-2-ball-center-shaft,default,pd.html

I've  purchased drivers, wedges, and putters from them, all in fantastic shape.

Go to:

The link will get you to the site. I've marked the X18 irons because they're $250-350, and they have Odyssey putters within your price range - you can get irons and putter within your budget. They may also have a discount. Open an account. They were showing a 20% discount to me.

Try any discount sports store. They always seem to have some really heavy putters.

RedCallaway,

Right now there are several good previous year model sets out there at great prices. I purchased a set of Callaway X-20 irons 4-PW,SW for well under $300 for my son at my local GolfUSA store for this past Xmas, and I knew he would be standard length so they stated they would adjust the lie if needed for free. Alot of the big online places like TGW.com, golfgalaxy, edwinwatts and golfsmith have good discounts on those irons and other previous year model irons. If possible, you should go to a demo days and hit several different brands and then get fit for the ones that you like the most and that fall within your budget. If there isnt a demo days in your area your local dealer will typically let you demo different brands so you can get a feel for what you like. I think you should easily be able to get a set of good quality brand new irons for under $300 and a good putter for around $100 - $150. My best advice would be try before you buy, if possible.

I already have a few hybrids, but I'd really like to have 3, 4, 5 iron blades.

I couldn't think the name I was looking for at that moment, I meant a mallet putter.

Also thanks for all the recommendations for that website, I'll have a look at it asap.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
