I am taking lessons now and have started developing an actual swing, still a bit inconsistent  but it has only been 2 lessons but progress is really being made. Anyway I was at Golfsmith the other day killing time and made my way over to the hitting bays. I started hitting some irons all 6 irons. I was hitting the MacGregor VIP iron with kbs shaft not sure of the flex, and also hit the M85i with true temper gs 75 shaft.. I was absolutely loving both. The VIPS felt the best. I also really enjoyed the TaylorMade R9 with KBS shaft. I hated the Callaway Diablo's, Mizuno JBx800 and TM burners. The Cleveland CG16 were a decent hit.

With an actual swing coming around and a fitting coming up my concern is if in fact I am determined to be a regular or still flex or longer shaft length it is going to be cheaper to change clubs all together. Anyone play any of the above mentioned clubs? I also checked out the shaft lengths of the MacGregors and they are a bit longer than what I currently play stock uniflex Callaway x-20's with mid size Golf Prides.

Went with the MacGregor VIP irons with s flex KBS. Got them fitted. Lie changing to more upright(not real sure what that does or means) and getting the shafts extended .25 and had Golf Pride mid new decade mcc red/black. Very excited to match this set up with my lessons. Never had fitted clubs before. Anyone play the VIP?

Have you ever considered trying Titleist AP1s or AP2s? Very nice forgiving clubs.

This may sound silly but no. It didn't even cross my mind to swing either, not sure if they even had them to hit. Its weird too because I play the Titleist Vokey wedges and after a few more lessons looking to get fit(if i hit it well) for the Titleist 909D2 such a great looking club, I am also going to be upgrading to a Scotty Cameron putter.

I used to play TaylorMade R9 for long distance. But now i was using my TaylorMade R11 Driver, it is easy control. The adjustment shaft is better than R9:)D

I can only comment on the R9 irons.  I currently play those, with Dynamic Gold X100 shafts.  I love them.  I am not looking for a forged club, or a blade, but I don't like tremendous offset and wide soles.  These irons fall directly into the middle.  Very long, very forgiving.  I hate the standard TaylorMade velvet grips, and replaced them with Medallist wraps.  They're available at Golfsmith for $1 each.

Picked up the new irons and played a round. I seemed to have lost some distance from that of the stock x-20's i had. Is there a reason why a fitted set of Macs with stiff kbs shafts bend 2 degrees upright and lengthened 1/2 inch would play less distance. Do I need to just get used to the new fitted clubs or could there be a problem?

There's no problem.  You went from a uniflex Callaway shaft to a stiff flex shaft, so right there you'll probably lose a little distance.  You also had your clubs lengthened, and they're different heads, so you're probably not used to them/hitting the sweet spot yet.

So those new clubs, well after playing an extended 3rd round with them and having a playing lesson it was strongly advised by my instructor to bring the clubs back and removed the .50 extenders and go to the standard length. 6'2 with long arms does not warrant longer clubs. I really hope that Golfsmith removes just the extenders and doesn't cut the shafts at all. I was able to hit my 9 and pw well but that could be because they were at the length of a 7 iron. Oh well will have to wait a week or so to play again.
