We usually play $1 a hole for skins and play putt poker. You put in a $1 for every putt you take and then you get cards for any one putt or no putt - deal out the hands at the end and best 5 card hand takes the pot. he he, we play with a guy who consistenly 3 putts at least, makes for a juicy pot to win even if you played crappy all day.

wow that sounds pretty cool...is there a limit to how high the guys score is to get the card on a 1-putt even though he got an 8 on the hole??

Regularly £1 out, £1 back, £1 overall, plus £1 for nearest the pin on the par 3s.
Maximum ever? That would be the occasion I took £50 of a guy I'd been losing £5, £10 to so often I was going to put him on my tax return as a dependant...
On the 17th tee I was 4 points behind on Stableford and the sun was more than kissing the horizon, it was deeply involved in a steamy relationship with it. I parred 17, with a shot, he bogeyed - 2 points behind on 18. I birdied, he went OB, I got the money by a point. Probably helped that it was nearly dark - I wasn't tempted to lift my head! Nice.

I'm a fan of not necessarily betting money but say "lunch on the loser" or the loser buys a round for the foursome or something like that. As a side note, I've had many free lunches and rounds (my playing partners aren't very good).

Usually do $5/hole until the 16-18 where it can range from $10-60. Loser of the day usually buys dinner.

Hi, I'm new to the board but felt I needed to comment on this, I have found the amount of money doesn't matter. I assume that if we are playing golf we can afford to win/lose 20-100$ without it substantially affecting our financial status. The best bet involves no money, but the good old upper body. The pushup is the ultimate bet. Any game can be played with it and applied accordingly. Ya losing 50$ sucks but not nearly as bad as getting down on the floor in the clubhouse/range/tee box while three people stand around and count your 100 pushups. The thought of losing this type of wager makes you either practice your game or start cranking a few sets out when you get up.

I usually just play $1 each hole just to spice things up a bit. i don't bet too much though.

I bet twice per week. $1.00 per player for league night which amounts to $35-45, split in two for closest to pin on the par three's.

On Saturday mornings, 16 guys put in $10 and win money based on skins for lowest score for a given hole. Usually 6-8 skins are won per round for a share of around $20-25 for a skin. I was lucky once to win two out of only four skins which got me $80 or so.

    • Day 4 (24 Jun 26) - Played the mid-week shootout - iffy day on putts as I had 35 and of late been in the upper 20's.   Greens recently verti-cut and they are a bit bump and long haired - no excuses as I need to learn to trust making the proper adjustments.   Overall a decent day with some solid long game shots.

    • Thank you.  I'll cross it off the list since it isn't going to achieve what I want.
    • While it does turn out that both Tiger and Phil are less squeaky clean than I previously believed, I don't think golf quite has the worst in professional sports.  Or maybe they're better at image management.   Obviously I'm not fond of Phil's issue we're discussing in this thread (or his involvement with LIV) or Tiger's choices of how to drive.  I used to really like Dustin Johnson and, even before the LIV situation, we started to hear rumors that he bought more snow than Seward, although I don't think those stories were ever substantiated.  Meanwhile, I did think of Anthony Kim as the "good, bad boy" of the tour for a while fifteen years ago because of his party persona -- and if it turns out the worst he did was show up hung over to play (barring what one thinks of LIV), that's pretty good.  And I'm still happy he found a way to get his life clean. If we contrast that with some other sports I enjoy, I'm sure we could find a nice long list of NFL players that, at one point in my life, I was quite fond of, we get far worse disappointments (to put it mildly).
    • Answering that properly would land me in hot water, so I'm not going to. I don't think that many people would do that. I think that in certain circumstances many people would be willing to overlook someone doing that. But I was really referring to what I assumed was Tiger's transgressions (cheating on his wife) not Phil's.
