Is the 13th green at The TPC fair or unfair in your opinion?

To the credit of those at TPC though they've made the course much more playable over the years and I believe the scoring today shows that low #'s are out there. A 67 from Robert Karlsson today, a 68 from David Toms, and a 4 under 32 on the front for Mahan and I believe is 6 under on the day. Plenty of birdies out there and the course is, in my view, fair.

Ha Ha.. funny.. but then I was never a fan of Pete Dye courses.. I'd soon have Billy Bob design me a course then Pete..

If anyone really wants to make the argument that the 13th green is little more than a Jungle Golf putt-putt gimmick, they need to re-watch Davis Love III's putt from today's final round.

I have played this course and when not in tournament conditions it is an easy hole.  I suspect that under the firm conditions of tournament play the hole is unfair.  I believe that there are safe shot options, but to the pros any hole that takes birdie out of the equation is seen as unfair. I think some of these guys need to remember that setting up courses to their preferences is not the only consideration.  The spectator appeal and risk reward nature of this hole under pressure make it a valuable asset.

Was that the one where the golfer putted 20 feet to the left of the hole.. almost stopped the ball on the ridge to have "gravity" bring the ball 90 degrees to the right and slide down close to the hole?   After I saw that, all I can think of is PUTT PUTT.. Total BS in my opinion..

Suffice to say I disagree.

Hit the ball in the proper section of the green or face a difficult but by no means impossible two-putt (or even one-putt).

Unfair?  No way.  As long as everyone is facing the same course, there's no such thing as "unfair."

Perhaps not fun to play or not fun to watch, but not unfair.  A golfer complaining about that is, imo, suffering sour grapes.

Well in that case, lets bring out the windmills on the green, and Redwoods in the middle of the fairway.. As long as everyone has to play it, it's all good.. right?

No, it'd be a terrible idea, but that's not the same as "unfair."

But what you and some have done is take the "unfair" in a literal sense by definition..  The OP shouldn't of used "unfair" to describe the hole, but I knew that he was implying and trying to say..  Geeesh..  Would it be better if the OP said parts of the TPC course are insanely stupid?

    • Even injured Tiger had a more impressive career than Jack against much stiffer competition. This was confirmed by Jack quite a few times. You want to ignore that, but it’s fact.
    • Day 201 3-5 Wider backswing and higher. Practiced consisted of mostly backswing today. Wrist arching through downswing still a focus on full shots with a pause.  Will probably have a 2nd practice tonight blending wider backswing into more of full swing without pause at the top.
    • Scooted over to the range today in the rain to see how it goes when I try to hit one. The rehearsals I think look reasonable, but then get worse when I try to hit the ball. I think it’s better than it was but still a ways to go. Including the rehearsals in these two videos. One dtl and one fo. I still don’t understand what I need to do on the way down to stop that fugly shoving outside of the hands. Seems unlikely that will just disappear when I get the backswing position right. I have a feeling that lack of understanding of the next step might be holding me back some.
    • Of course, injuries suck, but that's no excuse. jack was competitive from 1962-1984 or so. 1979 wasn't very good sure (first winless season) but every other season during that timeline he was in the top 16 in the money list. That is a crazy long time. And notice I didn't even include 1986 because he was "only" 34th in the money list that year and 43rd the year prior.  Like you said yourself Tiger was injured what felt like more often than not post 2009. When he was healthy enough to play a full season he did really well (2012-2013, and 2018-2019).  I like Tiger too but you are seriously downplaying what Nicklaus did. Nicklaus was not normal, he is a crazy outlier just like Tiger.  The funny thing is Jack played a reduced schedule compared to his peers and yet he still played way more than Tiger up to his final win. I got him at 477 excluding amateur starts up to 1986 while Tiger is 364 if we exclude his am starts, 345 up to his last win at the Zozo. Just pointing that out because you said he only played a handful of events in those later years.
