Hi all:

I just joined The Sand Trap. To the founders, great idea - there is definitely a shortage of golf-related blogs, this should help!

I've been posting a few items to my blog and wanted to get some feedback. Rather than focusing on post-event coverage (i.e. of the weekly events), I try and write about some of the "uber-tour" topics of interest.

Comments welcome!

Thanks.

Go ahead and throw the URL in your signature. Participate in the conversations here and plenty of people will follow through to your site. Making your first post a "please leave this site and check mine out" isn't a fatal error by any means, but do try to participate here too, ok?

I'm biased. I see the default MT template and I want to leave quickly. But I added your feed, along with 50 or so others, to my rss aggregator.

Thanks Erik:

Good point - I'll put it in the sig - sorry for the etiquette breach - unintentional. Will definitely visit and post here - was not trying to hijack any traffic. My little one-person blog does something very different than what you guys are up to - and as I said, your blog is one of the first golf-focused ones I've seen, so good luck!

On the formatting thing, fair point - totally busted on my lack of originality. Four kids and the pesky full-time job thing prevent me from branching out a bit more - hopefully the content makes up for it?

I just wanted to take this time to welcome you to The Sand Trap. I hope to see you here in the future, it looks like you have love for the game.

I think your site looks pretty good, but I don't know much about starting blogs and sites, etc. So my opinion won't go very far.

Like I said, welcome and have fun here!

Hi all:

The best way any of us bloggers can grow is by networking with each other. Cross linking is the way to go. If anyone were to snub links, they'd be shooting their own foot.

Best of luck.

The most important thing for your blog is the content. Sure design is great, but content will keep them coming back. People don't go to a website looking for golf info and just stare at the design all day.

In my case, though, I am a webdesigner. Thats what I do as a full time job, and along with being a golf lover, I decided to make a website about it. I put alot of time and effort into the design and organization process. So Major Championships is my way of contributing to the golf community.

I am all for the link exchange stuff to like Hooked said. Thats the only way to grow.

an SEO tip (search engine optimization), it doesn't matter how many sites YOU link to, it matters who links to you. It also matters on the link text they use to link to you.

Type ' click here ' in google and Adobes PDF READER download site comes up first. Why, because millions of sites on the web use "click here' as their anchor text (i.e; Click Here to download the PDF Reader).

Right now, I am #1 on google for the term "Major Championships", however it actually doesn't generate alot of visits suprisingly. That is why you have to optimize your site for targeted searched keywords. My link text typically uses "Golf Blog" in it, as I am hoping to increase my positioning for that term.

Anyways, sorry to go off topic. You look like you have a nice blog there with some good content. I have added you to my RSS reader.

I hope you're right about content - it's all I've got right now But the design will come. Thanks also for the link - putting my list together this week to hopefully help send some traffic back your way.

Agree with the need for search engine optimization - a lot of folks buy space in the right hand column, but natural search (the main listings) is the better and cheaper way to drive traffic. I'm still learning about Google and Overture, but they are a great potential source of traffic.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
    • No. But if I can still play next year, I'll almost certainly be even worse. That's the reality of not being young.🙁
