So lately i haven't been able to get my driver and long irons to go straight on full shots. I'm either "releasing" to the right of the target or holding on too long and releasing to the left. My scrambling and putting have been good which keep me shooting low 80's, but this is frustrating the hell out of me and costing me 5-10 strokes. I did a huge alignment/swing change last year because I was closed off and pulling the ball, now my alignment is fine but I'm both pushing and pulling. I know this question sounds ridiculous, cause it does to me, but how do i get my momentum going at the target?

I've been hitting low punch draws with my long irons(3-4) and I can still get 230 out of my three and put it relatively where I want it, but i'm giving up about 15-20 yards of carry with it and can't stop it on the green.

help!

I've been experiencing the same as you have.  I realized recently that I wasn't maintaining my spine tilt throughout the downswing.  As soon as I maintained the feeling of keeping my chest "down", the accuracy and the overall straightness of my shots came back.

I hit very low pushes (thin hits) or hooks (club face too closed) with the long clubs lately. Video showed, that I am standing up early (inclination to the ground) and cast the club for compensation. I was trying to squeeze every yard out of the swing... Bad idea.

So, staying in the inclination plus stopping casting should solve it. Eaaaasy :D

Do a video of your swing and you'll find your cure quickly.

update... so uttexas and i played yesterday and i was hitting my long irons as good as ever, i noticed that my downswing sequence was just a bit off and my upper half was rushing the downswing. i still can't hit my driver for anything. it cost me many strokes yesterday. i'll try and update my swing vids sometime this week.

It may be that your target is the ball sometimes, instead of...your target. ie. the flagstick or whatever. I find if I swing out towards my target I'm generally very accurate. Instead of at the ball then I have a tendency to hold on too long, especially with long irons.

Focus on your target and make sure you swing out towards it and the ball will head the way :) not as simple as that but you know what I mean.
