Guys/Gals of TST,
have any of you had any issues with your footjoy icon's wearing out WAY before they are supposed to? ie sole detaching from the leather, the 'cayman' or lizard leather 'flaking' off? i have the original box from a reputable dealer, just no reciept. i sent an email to FJ in hopes for some relief, and awaiting a response. Is FJ a good company in terms of replacing their shoes if there's a problem? I've never had a problem with their shoes so this is a first time thing for me. btw, they've been used a total of 10, yes, 10 rounds. they're my favorite pair of shoes i just can't wear them since anytime i step in water...it 'leaks' by the leather that's coming apart from the sole. anyone have opinions/experiences with FJ and their customer service? anyone have the same problems with their Icons?

Thanks in advance,

-PG from NJ

Footjoy prominently advertises a 2-year waterproof warranty on the Icons, so I doubt you'll have any problems getting a replacement. Just keep after them.

Ditto. I've heard of virtually everyone having good experience with customer support for issues like this.

They'll likely know that the shoes aren't old just by the model or something.

Think they'd just send me a new pair? would they have me send the old ones back i guess?

The process is straightforward, and can be found either online or through the Customer Service #.  You send back the shoes in question, and they will ship back new shoes, or yours repaired.

My pair had premature collapse of heel with marked pronation after only 18 months. Unfortunately i waited beyond the 2 yeaer period and have no warranty option.  My foot pronates. Where orthotics.  Heel looks to be low durabilty.  Did not expect this from premium shoe

I like Footjoy, and have always had good results with their customer service, but I don't think the Icons come close to the shoes that were made in Brockton,Mass.

Contacted Footjoy

The response was dissappointing

Myjoy Icon shoes 2 years old.   Look like new.  Heel collapsed on left shoe likely reflecting strain imposed by orthotic and my left foot pronation.  Makes greate shoe unusable.   Footjoy cannot repair.  Dont offer for purchase and local repair and replacement sole.  Effectively a $300 pair of shoes have to be thrown away or resoled with a generic sole.

Sad and wasteful.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
