Does anyone else using S&T deal with this? I went away from S&T a little bit with my driver swing lately and am crushing the ball dead straight. I still adhere to the S&T principles with my irons and they continue to be as crisp as I have ever hit them.

Feel isn't real. God knows what you are actually doing in either of your swings.

And yes, you can hit the driver differently. It's not what I'd call "significantly" differently, but it's different enough. Or can be.

Feel may not be real but I do not try at all to keep my arms as tight to my torso with my driver swing which is something I do with my irons and I am getting much better results. I had thought even you had a shift in driver thinking recently Erik so I am surprised at your seeming dismissal of this.

I would say show in video how then are different, otherwise I would side with Erik regarding if they are really different. A video is evidence, just you saying it is different is not real evidence. It is nothing against you, you should not take it personal.

Trust in God, all others bring data

As to your question, which I think is an EXCELLENT one. Fact is that the best way to hit the driver for us amateurs is to hit up on it with the driver. I think with the weight forward as S&T advocates it is very difficult to achieve this because to get real axis tilt we will have to get the hips really forward. Would it not be easier to preset some axis tilt to help support hitting up on it? I know it has been suggested to push the hips forward but not much on how much and how much axis tilt we should be shooting for.

All this being said I think mixing patterns is bad. When components don't match trouble is brewing.

I'm not dismissing anything. Sorry if it read that way... and good for you in finding a change that works.

I'm just suggesting that feel isn't real and that your other swing probably isn't as "S&T" as you might think, either. Arms tight to the torso becomes more important with the driver. If I were to guess, you're probably below elbow plane at the top of the backswing with the driver normally, which isn't something we'd really want in an S&T swing, either. And I could be wrong, and you might uncock and palmar flex like crazy to hit from the inside.

Got a video? Show us your iron and driver swings in a "My Swing" thread.

Until then, I'm not sure what kind of thread this will be... I suppose I'll sit back and see. Just bear in mind that feel isn't real. Hell, I'm working on feeling like I'm swaying my hips backwards in the backswing and doing nothing but rotating my shoulders and lifting my arms...

With my irons I try to keep my arms tight to the torso, make sure my left shoulder and hip are turning down and in, and turn around a center axis. I tend to not pay as much attention to these things with my driver swing. I agree that feel isn't real but if it works, I will go with it. I would love to get a video to you but all I have is my cheap arse phone to do it with.
