I just returned my 3 month old Scotty Cameron California series Sonoma for a brand new one as the original one developed whitish spots all over the top and bottom of the head.  My son has also has a California series (Hollywood) and after 3 weeks of use he is starting to see the same white spots.  We both wipe off the putter after every green.  Someone we play with suggested it could be fertilizer on the greens that are making the heads discolor.

It is like the gold dip is starting to blotch.  I am concerned that this is typical of the California line.  I know it won't affect the performance, but I hate spending $300 for a putter that will discolor after a few months.

I am thinking of returning it for a Studio Select line.

Anyone experience anything like this?

I have the California Del Mar and I noticed the honey finish was starting to wear too. From what I gather, this finish isn’t the most durable. I do love this line of putters though – so I sent my Del Mar to the Putter Lounge( http://www.putterlounge.com/putter-refinishing-portfolio )to get it refinished in the matte black oxide and I’m very happy with the finished product.

I have a Del Mar and have not noticed the finish spotting.  My father has a Monterey that he has played 200+ rounds with and the finish on that one is not spotting, the finish on the face is getting pretty thin, but no spotting.

    • Interesting for sure. I have actually had my instructor try to get me to get the elbow in front as well. That actually spiraled me into the slump I am currently working out of. I would disagree with him saying that lowering the arm might be the simplest and easiest move in golf 😄. I am having SOO much trouble making that move instead of my hands immediately moving toward the ball from the top. It's like my mind has 0 patience at the top and tells me to GO GO GO.
