Now that cold weather has arrived... I was wondering how you guys keep up with Golf....

I am in New Jersey, and it got cold (I wonder how cold it is in any upper regions!) and I also gave up to go to the driving range.

I got a book by the title of "Be the Ball"... and it is very interesting...

Thank God that the Tour has started and Tiger is back in action!

I had to shut it down after Christmas, just too cold to do anything. I won't start to go to the range again until end of Feburary.
The way I deal with it is reading about golf, currently reading "2 years in St. Andrews" by George Peper. Also checking out all the golf web sites and reading the Sandtrap every day. I have my putter in the family room and will hit about 50 putts a day. I re-grip my clubs every winter and check out E-bay for golf artifacts to add to my golf theme in my den. I just bought a Ben Hogan neon sign for $0.01 I was the only bidder, shipping from Hong Kong was $32.
Yes, thank God the tour has started and Fantasy golf. That will keep me sane until the weather breaks!

With global warming in affect, the weather changes so much.. right now its sunny and above 0 * and all the snow has melted so i can golf if i want, last week it was below zero and snowing.

But when im snowed in or rained out, I'll carpet putt, even though my carpet has about 10 subtle breaks. Watch golf, I bought a book called golfs strangest rounds which is kind of cool, look at golf mags, equipment and stats online.. and drool over what clubs i want. And of course check the sandtrap for interesting threads.

Utah is still covered in snow, but Mesquite and Vegas are short drives, so road trips are frequent.

And there is always Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006, 2007 etc.

Oh and this forum.

I have to echo the global warming comments. Last weekend was the first time I didn't golf in almost 7-8 months!! But, now it's cold and things are winding down. That being said, Saturday's high is 43, partly cloudy, so I'm thinking about going out

I also just moved into a new house with an unfinished basement, 10 feet ceilings. I ended up buying an Izzo cage net, shag pro, mat, and putting green -- I have to admit the mini-driving range is working out well. I'll appreciate it more once we have a couple of inches of real snow.

Till then, I'll thank Al Gore and head for the links...

Great! I will try to follow your routine... especially the 50 putts per day!

I don't know much about fantasy golf... is it difficult to do it?

I really don't do much of anything with golf during the winter.. I hate being outdoors when it's cold out.

does it get so cold also down there?

(pardon my ignorance... but I thought NC was warmer enough to play in winter)

Forgot to mention games, personally im getting tired of the same old with the TW series from EA. I always find myself going back to Links 2003 for pc, it's still the best exsisting golf game on any platform. For those who havent played it.. get the championship course's disc and customize your own season to fit the PGA tour schedule. Plenty of swing modes, and diffuculty settings available for when you master the easy settings. And course's like Oakmont and Princville will keep you coming back for years. Other than that, Id recommend Prostroke golf for you die hards who are snowed in right now.

There's an indoor golf dome right in my area that I like to go to. In fact it was named one of the Top 10 Golf Domes in America. Fully equipped with 2 PGA stimp putting greens, a sand trap, 40 tees with mats and artifical grass, plus 2 golf simulators where you can play 26 different courses throughout the world. It's a beautiful facility.

Fortunately, we can play almost all winter here. I just came out of the worst stretch of winter weather we have had so far and I missed 3 straight weeks. The rest of this week looks good, but starting Sunday, it is going to be bitter cold for a few days, so I will be stuck inside again.

When it is too bad out to play, my only option is pouting. I have gotten really good at it, just ask my wife.

Just out of curiosity, what passes as bitter cold down there?

I always find it interesting to do this comparison

Say what you will about the South and Southerners, but living in VA I pretty much get to play year round. Now there will be stints of a week or three where I can't get out there, but I'll take it. The trick is getting the weather to cooperate when I am able to play. Nothing worse than a 60 degree winter day and not being able to even go out to hit balls :p

Oh, and then there is Links for the Xbox or the Outlaw games. Links is still my favorite with all the TW versions being at the bottom. Too easy and creepy EA graphics. Sim Golf for the PC is also an oldie but goodie.

Indoor golf simulator for me. with the lack of snow on the warmer days I go out back and hit balls into the open field behind the house.

Bitter cold here will be single digit lows and teens during the day. I call that bitter cold. My wife, who is from Buffalo, laughs at me and the weather guy when he refers to those temperatures as "bitter cold"..
