Hi

Been playing 4-9 Ping G irons plus Glide 2.0 wedges and also have a Ping Eye 2 2 iron as a "get from under trees club"  because if its low ball flight and absolutely  love it.

The 2 iron has been reshafted and fitted with a Regular Graphite shaft.

Thinking of going retro and getting more Ping Eye 2 irons and intend to also get them reshafted my question is:

Is Ping Eye 2 standard less usable than Ping Eye 2 + and if could get a set of Ping Eye 2 Berryllium Copper would they be better that either of the steel clubs?

regards

Hello and welcome to TST. What exactly do you mean by ‘better?’ It’s really your own preference. The Ping Eye2’s certainly have an enduring reputation. You may see a drop in distance going from the more modern G irons to the Ping Eye2. The G irons are designed to get the ball in the air easier. As far as the BC it’s really just a matter of what you like. Performance wise I don’t think there’s any significant difference. If you could get a Ping Eye2 7i and hit it for comparison with your G iron you’ll be able to make a better decision.

Thanks

Just wanted an opinion as to whether there was any real difference between the Steel and the Copper versions.

Not too fussed at maybe losing a bit of distance as in the end this is a heart versus head issue 😎

    • That makes more sense thanks.  I'll give it a go.  That other video really helps.  Will post another video once I practice it a bit and appreciate the help as always.
    • Day 25: range and putting session. Worked about an hour at the range. Filmed a bit - think some progress but need more. Then went and worked on putts within 10 feet for about 20 minutes.

    • Day 45 (22 Apr 26) - good friend wanted to play the Weds shootout. Glad we did as I had the most consistent round in a while - 38/41 for a 79 (first sub 80 in months): 27 putts, 9 pars (7 were up and down 1 putts), 8 bogies, 1 birdie and 0 dbls or worse!  This is the 1st full round where I’ve not had at least one dbl (or worse) and 0 penalties.  I also came 1 hole from having “no sixes” (bogied the par five 16th).  All the drills came together today for a solid round.
    • Day 568 - 2026-04-22 Created a 33-minute playlist and paused it while I stopped. I mostly did some backswing and a little downswing work with the mirror. This got me most of the way through the playlist, so then I chopped for a good 15 or 20 minutes.
