Man oh Man!!!!!!!! What a thread!!!!! Only ONE post in this entire thread has damned Daly as a nogood-loser. ONE!! Isn't that amazing?? What is it about John we all love so much? The God-given talent? The no-risk-no-fun attitude to every aspect of his game? The workingclass style, winning majors and giving the stuffed shirts of golf the finger? Whatever it is, MARK THESE WORDS:

That'd be great maybe in a perfect world. He can always get hot and start making birdeis but he'll never consitently win unless he fully dedicates himself to the game of golf.

I watched the skins aswell, when he gets in these have fun type situations he plays well. But it doesnt count towards anything positive for his career other than maybe a little confidence. And if john Daly is healthy, im Tiger Woods. The guy looks worse then he ever has in my oppinion.. tired, depressed, fat and unhealthy. I honestly dont think he's change s---.

John Daly has had issues for a long time.

Excessive gambling, poor choices in relationships/friendships, taking care of himself; these have taken their toll on a golfer that obviously has talent. Mere mortals would have faded away a long time ago.

He can still play years of great and entertaining golf but he has to change who he is now.

I'm pulling for him...here's to seeing him on the leaderboard soon.

Yeah, I'm pulling for him also. I'd picked up golf at 7, mainly inspired by hearing about John Daly on the television. My father got me a little set of clubs, and the rest was history.

The man's proven he's not just a one-win wonder, that he can come back and get his shit together, and pull it off again. With him getting older, it gets less likely, but being in contention isn't an impossiblity, or perhaps a great career on the Champions Tour.

A dude up at Mizzou (John Kelly, U.S. Am runner up last year) said he writes his phone number on golf balls and has his caddie give them out to the hottest girls in the gallery at every stop. He said it actually works too. For that reason alone, I could be a John Daly fan. But I like him for other reasons too. Like his ability to write country songs and drink Diet Coke like it's going out of style.

he shot 3 under in the 1st round today. He's got good feelings at this tournament so he could play well this week.

I hope he makes the cut for sure and even finishes in the top 10. BigJohn will always be my favorite golfer.

Shooter I am from St Louis also. Which courses do you play?

He's -3 starting today. Cut is projected at -2. Prime position for a typical Daly blow up, ending that day at +5 for the tourney and heading home early, again. Hope I'm wrong though.

He'll never win PERIOD without a complete "makeover" and to think that's even remotely possible is beyond comprehension. Daly's chances of

winning consistently are zero.

^ I've said it before aswell. But remember he was 2nd in birdies made in the last event he played, i forget which it was though.. if he could make some pars he'd be golden. Id say more realistic chance's for Daly to win again would be 5-10 %. Think about the slump he was in before this one... He hadnt won in like 10 years or something and then shocks everyone and wins the buick in 05 (i think).

He did make the cut to finish -5, 5 shots back of the lead and if you look at his stats they're pretty decent. He's got good feeling here, it would be a great story even if he top tened.

Say what?
Big John missed the cut by eight strokes at the John Deere "Classic"?
Well, what if Big John played a better golf ball & better sticks?

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
