I have a theory as to what is going on here but would like to hear what you guys think and also any tips for the range you may have. ( please exude any spelling errors I'm on my cell phone at work). So I had a dymo 2 str8 fit regular shaft 10.5 loft. ( anniversary present) my driver swing speed is 106-111 but I learned how to hit it with ease. My irons have always been deadly. Extremely accurate and I bomb them. 140-143 PW and 6/9 yards on each iron up. Well I had some extra money and wanted to be fitted for a new driver. It's was Nike vr pro 9.5 stiff. So went from 10.5-9.5 regular to stiff and square to round head. My first round with it was ugly. 100-150 yard snap hooks left right off the tee. After 3 rounds and a range session I am bombing this thing down the heart but now my irons are gone. 20-30 yard pushes right and even some shanks right and some slices( i hit a natural draw). This is totally outrageous and killing me. Even my 60 and 56 and therey money clubs. Now my theory is trying to straighten out the nasty hook with the new driver it's causing me to be less Agressive with my hands causing in open face I already know I come a little inside hence the natural draw but I feel I'm taking my same iron swing as before. What do you think and do you have any drills I can use at the range today? Ive come to know that you can pretty much spray your drives all over the place as long as your irons are great you can shoot 70s low 80s but when your irons are all over the place it doesnt matter if every drives down the middle your scores going to suffer Got a tournament Monday thank you for any help

I'm going to give you a little advice. There's a force in the universe that makes things happen. And all you have to do is get in touch with it, stop thinking, let things happen, and be the ball.

I'm having the exact same problem. I just picked up an R11 and after spending so much range time with it I have not only lost any draw to my irons but I am fading, slicing & shanking. Today I found a little help with a stronger grip on my irons (woods are always neutral) but ball flight was a gentle fade at best. Not only have I lost my draw but I've lost my confidence as well.

I knew there had to be someone else out there that's went through the same problem I was hoping to find a drill or something someone has used to fix it. I played 18 today and had zero confidence after hitting about 50 balls all irons on the range. Hit the first 5 SW shots great then as soon as I thought I had it boom going right. I started taking L to L swings with my feet together working on turning my hands over. Hit roughly 50% of em pushed out to the right worse with my longer irons. I said at the first tee this is going to be a rough round. Only to my surprise my first to last iron shot on the course was dead where I aimed with the exception of a 193 yard par 3 I pushed a 5 iron about 10-15 yards right. My problem today was I sliced every drive except 2. I was 2/14 fairways hit. I guess it's back to the range tomorrow. Now it's driver again

Today's range session was much better. Still a small fade but at least no slices or shanks! What I focused on besides the usual: 1.shortened my back swing 2.a unified one piece takeaway including holding the setup/impact angle (shaft lean) throughout the takeaway. 3.club release as if I were throwing the club head at the target.

I'm still not satisfied but it was the first day in several with zero shanks.

I also discussed the problem with my instructor and we bounced around the ideas of training aids so I ended up getting a Medicus 5 iron. Hopefully it will help get my swing back on track.

    • Day 37, June 10.  Today was primarily WFH, so I had several practice sessions (indoors, off a mat, into the net).  At least one each of U, 9, and 6-iron full swings with the usual priority.   I also tried a few times a putting type stroke with my 4H, as something I should probably learn how to hit (and what it does), but the mechanical shot at home off a mat doesn't tell me much of what it's doing.  That's something I should probably try on a real green, not during a round until I've tried it.
    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
