The range and the couse close to my house is in the the city park. The balls at our range cost $10 for 105 balls. I am able to hit the range about eight time a month, thus spending $80 a month. I only play the course once or twice a month, and I plan on slowly moving away from the range and more to the course once I feel like my swing is solid and consistent. The course offers a monthly practice pass which is $99 plus a discount on weekday twilight green fees. I can't play an entire round during the week, so it is better off for me to just pay the $80 in purchasing balls. Plus if I paid $99 a month for a year, I might as well pay for a membership at a club. It would only cost me about $500 more, and I would get free green frees and range balls. (The weather allows year round playing here). I feel like the $99 dollar pracitce pass is extremely overpriced.

My wife and I love the City Park, and she is big into giving to charity and volunteering. She was researching the City Park yesterday to see about giving to the park, and she found a place where you could donate and become a member of the park. The membership includes discounts to all the activities, gardens, amusement park, muesems, special events etc. The only perks I would use would be admission to their Christmas Light display (only because I get dragged there every year) and the $5 large bucket of balls discount. This will save me $40 bucks a month, and the member ship is only $45!. So I my membership will pay for itself after only one month. Too bad they membership doesn't include freebies or discounts on green fees. I was just too excited not to post this.

Good deal.  I love how you say you get dragged there every year for the Christmas display :)

Weakest part of my game is 65 yards and under.  I take a dozen balls to the Jr. Highschool football field and whack away.

I am a member of a country club and its $180 a month, unlimited golf, and $250 a year for unlimited range...

Just to give you an idea on what some people are paying. Other courses in the area offer $65 a month unlimited range.

I pay $300 for a full year of unlimited range balls at the semi-private course right by my work.  It's more than I wanted to pay, but it was the best option around.  Plus it's a real grass range.  From some threads I've read on here, a lot of people don't get that luxury.  Oddly enough, I'm the only person at this course with a range membership (full membership includes unlimited range already).

For anyone who really wants to play regularly,  a membership of some kind is a must. Whether it's a full blown annual pass, or some kind of patron pass, or whatever......it's a must!!  I'm talking about somebody who wants to play a lot more than a typical casual golfer who plays maybe 20-30 rounds a year.

You'll soon find that you'll find time to play a lot more!!    You'll soon learn that you can play A LOT more golf late than you thought you could because the course empties before dark.  Hell...I can go out after 7pm and play 18 no problem.  I may skip past a few holes to pass a group or two and make up the skipped holes elsewhere, but you can log some serious holes late in the day.

The country club I'm a member at offers a range and pool for membership for $125 a month. Full membership people can pay an additional 25 a month for unlimited range but half the time they don't charge you for range balls.

The range I go to has a card you can get and load up with up to $500 at a time, and depending on how much you spend, you get X amount added credit to the card, plus "happy hour" double ball specials. I put $50 on there at a time and get $55 in credit, and working the happy hour time (after 6pm on weekdays and all day weekends) I can stretch those credits pretty well (200 balls for $7). This usually lasts me over a month.

Thats awesome.  I get ripped off at the range I feel like but the course I play at does not have one.  I got a great price on a student membership at my local course though so I am able to play 2 or 3 times a week without worrying about greens fee's at least.

Good stuff. I got a membership and it's free range balls, play, etc. After I go to the course, and feel like playing more golf at home. I just simply go into my backyard on my small home-made hole :)

I simply use a sand pitching wedge off the tee. Hit that onto the green, then putt! It's changed my short game, dramatically.
