Just a little introdution.

My name is Adrian im 28 and i live in Lancashire, UK

I started playing golf in February and was hooked straight away. Since starting i play at least once a week and if possible i try to get a 2nd game in.

I started playing on a small 9 hole course which has 1 par 4 and 8 par 3`s, this i feel has helped my shortgame a lot. Its par 28, and the best ive managed so far is 39, not great i know but im now starting to get a lot more consistant.

Ive only played a full 18 hole course 3 times, 1st time was a disaster lol finished about 78 over par. I went back to the 9 hole course and continued to work on my game. Next time i went back i finished 40 over which i was very pleased with. My big aim is to break the 100 shots for a round, im only 10 shots off so i would hope that it will not be to long before i manage it.

The 18 hole course i played was the following

As i said before im totally hooked on the game, just wish i had started a few years ago. Im not a member of any club yet, but once i have improved my game slightly then this is the next thing i want to do. Im still on my Wilson starter golf kit, but im not already looking at what clubs i want to upgrade :) The wife wont be happy when she sees the price lol ;)

The only real problem i have with my game so far (besides consistancy) is i have a huge slice when ever i use any of the woods. Irons i can hit 7 times out of 10 straight, the woods though i have no idea where they will go lol. Ive read a bit about my problem, so just need to put what i have read into practice on the driving range/course.

Anyway i think i have babbled enough so, im sure i will speak to you all soon :)

Welcome, Saint Viper. I dig the nickname.

We've got quite a few folks from the UK that hang out here, and it's always good to have another.

Welcome to the board. You will definitely enjoy your time here.

And don't worry, I sliced the heck out of it when I started playing golf as well. I couldn't hit a driver without hitting it way right. So I just started aiming way left and it worked out great!

But nowadays I actually have a little draw, so I have come a long ways. You will get there, it just takes a lot of range balls and playing.

Welcome again!

Hi Adrian,
Welcome to "the gang" !

You got some fantastic courses in that part of the world as you progress and feel happy playing them.Dont worry too much about those wood problems either - its normal for them to be harder to hit at any level.Keep attacking the problem head on and dont hide them in a dark cupboard under the stairs.

Enjoy your time here......

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
