We've noticed that a few of our "thin on top" members have expressed frustration with sweat-stained hats which are either a pain to clean, or are too thick and uncomfortable on the head.  Before you replace yet another hat, consider a new product available from 4Headwear.

Our partner and the owner of 4Headwear, Steve Aronson (a bald guy), tells us “ according to the American Dermatology Association there are 36 million men in the US that have a receding hairline or no hair at all.”  He has created a line of hats specifically for this audience. “4HeadWear hats have been designed from the inside out for maximum comfort and performance.  All of our hats provide a double layer of moisture wicking fabric where bald men and men with receding hairlines perspire the most.  This design feature and the extremely lightweight fabric keeps your head cooler, drier, and more comfortable.”

To highlight just a few more unique features of his products:

  • 33% lighter than traditional golf hats
  • Wicks moisture five times faster than traditional hats – the entire hat is made with wicking material
  • Machine washable - comes out of the washer ready to wear and sweat stain-free
  • No metal button – eliminates uncomfortable touch point and heat source

Interested in trying the hat out yourself in exchange for a testimonial?  Stay tuned, as 4headwear will be working with TheSandtrap.com community to distribute a few samples.  In the meantime, check out their website for more information on how to get one for yourself.

Just ordered one. Tired of looking at my stack of faded, worn out golf hats!

I can soak a hat to dripping while I putt here in Tucson in the summer. We'll see how this hat does.

Best golf hat I've ever worn. Lighter, cooler, and doesn't get soaked.

Now I can throw away all the sweat-stained ones I have on the bookcase...  :)

If salt marks and that "unusual" smell follow you with your hat, I've found that washing them in the dishwasher works great.  At Amazon.com key in "hat dishwasher" and see the plastic frames that keep your hat shaped as needed.

My wife discovered this years ago when our daughter was playing competitive tennis in the South as a teenager.

Yeah, I don't understand why it seems no one knows to do this.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
