Hi my name is Keira and I am 16 years old and have been playing golf ever since I can remember. My mom just told me I swung my 1st club at the age of 4. I used to play all the time with my dad until he past away 3 years ago in a car accident. He is the primary person who taught me the game and everytime I play now I dedicate my round to him. My mom also plays the game and so does my grandpa and we all go out every once in a while together. I also play for my highschool girls team and this year I will be the number 1 golfer on the team. The season starts at the end of this month. I also play soccer , but golf is my sports passion. I also like movies and music and just plain hanging around with my friends.

Just alot of stroke practice. If your coach is anything like mine she/he will work on a praticular shot like a wedge shot for a day or two. Then the next work on your 5 iron. There are even days that my coach says not to bring but one club to the course or range for practice. Then a day or so before a match we will play a round or two. But a bet everyone is different.

I grew up playing golf myself. However, growing up, my area's sports were golf, soccer, and baseball in the spring.

After I got cut from baseball freshman year, I went to golf. The next 3 years I played soccer. It was mainly a social thing for me. Living in(then) rurual Georgia not many friends played golf.

Looking back I wish I would have just stayed with golf. Probably could have gotten in to a D-2 school at the least.

Good Luck!

Sorry man, thats what my post was about and maybe I should have quoted it. Anyway, Tom, how many people are on your varsity team? We have 12 kids that are on the team and half of them play varsity, the others are JV and Alternates.

Do all fifteen get letters, thats basically what I'm asking? Do all of those scores go into your school standings in your state and Division? Thats what our Varsity team is like.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
