Okay, so after a long range session Saturday, I left with a blister. I figured it wasn't too bad Saturday so I went back to the range Sunday and after about 10 balls, I was bleeding through my glove. This isn't the first time I've had a nasty blister in the same spot on my left hand, middle finger. This is the first time I was bleeding through my glove onto my right hand though. I need to know whether anyone else gets blisters in the same spot....if they do, how do they treat them and how do you prevent? This is the same spot I got one last December after a range session at Torrey Pines when I was on vacation. It pretty much puts me out of commission for a week or better which makes me very..................unhappy.

Any Tips?

This is the blister. Its not your typical, its like a blister within a blister within a blister...it's deep.

You are right handed I suppose. Okay well first that is a very strange place to get a blister. As I sit here on the computer I am making a grip and cannot figure our how you did it. Especially that bad. My middle left finger doesn't even touch anything on that part of my hand.

Well anyway, first a good thick bandaid and some athletic tape should do the trick to give you some relief.

Second go immediately to your local PGA professional and sign up for a lesson to help fix your grip cause something aint right.

Try Moleskin on the blister as well... make a donut shape the size of the blister, and place it on there with some neosporin and then wrap it up really well... I recommend the painless athletic tape from Band-Aid (but put a little piece of real athletic tape on there to keep it in place).

and I agree with NM... something is wrong with your grip, unless your glove doesn't fit properly... perhaps it's too big and rubbing on your hand??

I second that, I cannot figure out for the life of me how you got a blister there.

I can tell you that the friction that caused this blister is from the side of my right hand below my pinky finger. The area that if you were to karate chop something you would make contact with. I have a pretty sound grip, but maybe I got a little too bunched up with the right hand in my grip and it made suttle contact with it repeatedly. This repeated contact after 4 large buckets and an extra large bucket on Saturday did it. Thats around 400 range balls...

I have a momentus swing trainer and my grip is very similar to the molded grip on it, The right hand is just a little bit further up than maybe I am accustomed too and that may be where my error is.

First of all..OUCH!!! after you explained how the blister formed, I was able to see it gripping my highlighter with an overlapping grip. I guess if you still want to practice you can go interlocking for a little while. I've had my share of bleeding hands from long sessions at the range, but that's the ugliest blister I have seen. Take it easy and be well.

WHOA... i couldn't see the picture when i was at work... that is one heck of a blister! I still say, moleskin and neosporin will help.. and perhaps the moleskin will help you not develop such a nasty one again! I am impressed!

Whoa.... What the duck? The only time I've ever experienced blisters on my hands was when my grip pressure changed throughout the swing (most of the time this was due to a faulty grip or my attempting to strangle the heck out of the club at the beginning of the backswing). Agree with you on the training grips though. Most of the ones that I have seen seem a bit 'constricted'....

I would suggest using tape on the vulnerable areas when you have a session on the range.

I have a wierd one where I have to clip my left hand thumbnail as it's been known to rip through my glove and cut the inside of my right hand thumb before!

Ouch! I was confused about how you got a blister there, too. Mine are usually on the palms of my hands.

I was training for the LPGA awhile back and my trainer had me hitting 1,000 balls every morning at 5 AM before going out and playing 18 holes and talk about blisters!

By the end, my hands toughened up, but they almost looked like man hands! lol

Wow crater hands. I do think if you are going to hit a lot of balls, putting moisturizer on your glove hand in advance might help. Dry skin can get a small rip and blister fast. I don't think moleskin will stay on in that location, old fashioned white adhesive tape would probably stay on better. I have a finger on my non glove hand that is oddly shaped from being repeatedly broken so I use skin lotion and tape, otherwise blister.

I would be happy to take pictures of my grip but I don't have a 3rd hand around at the moment....

I will say though, my PGA pro has never once complained about my grip, but the problem is when I'm coming into impact. I'm going to have to resort to using tape once it heals up. At the moment, I cannot use tape because when taking it off, it'll just rip the thing to high hell.

I did use ambesol last night. It is actually for cold sores, I remember having canker sores (spelling) back in the day and having it around, I used it on a golf injury last summer where the cord grips were shredding my hands, it healed it in no time. After using the ambesol yesterday and then letting it air out over night, it was MUCH better in the morning. In fact, it wasn't such a crater anymore as it was when I took the picture. I'm looking forward to getting it healed up so I can get back to hitting. If I try to swing at the moment, it's just going to rip it open again and it'll take a month to heal.

For now, I'm gonna just watch the Big Break VII....glad Gary got booted....what an ugly ass swing.

Try wearing a golf glove on both hands or putting tape around your finger when you start hitting balls. maybe not hit so many balls each session. Not being able to play because you have to take a week off to heal is a waste of practice time.

I suffer with very dry hands, especially in the winter. I have callouses in some places that protect me from blisters, but my hands split open in the winter and bleed and hurt. I wear a glove on my right hand (I am a lefty) but I have to tape 3 fingers on my left hand to prevent worsening the bleeding cracks. I use moisturizers several times a day on my hands, pretty healthy creams, but nothing seems to completely cure the problem. For blisters (if I had em) I would use the tape or mole skin. You can usually buy it a bigger drugstores.

1st. Fire your PGA pro.
2nd. Buy Hogans book The Five Fundamentals.
3rd. Read all 42 pages on The Grip.
4th. Now you have a new grip!
5th. No more blisters.
6th. Get a new PGA pro.

The "karate chop" part of your hand has no place rubbing the front of your second finger. Maybe for someone peeling apples, but not on a golf club.

Good luck.

    • @colin007, in terms of realistic sci-fi, its the best ever. They actually had an astrophysicist consult on the movie to be as accurate as possible with what we know about the universe.  For like dystopian, Blade Runner is probably king. Action/suspense is probably Alien/Aliens. Though Starship Troopers is fantastic. The Matrix is amazing.
    • Day 4 (August 14).  Full swing in my indoor practice room;  6-iron, off a mat, into a net.  Focus was on what I believe was my priority piece at last lesson (which, admittedly, was almost three years ago, due to absence).  I hit about a dozen balls this morning before going into the office.  (Also, errata to yesterday:  9 of the 12 coins were picked up on the second or third go around -- you can't pick up one on the first go around for that drill)
    • Watched The Gentlemen, took a little bit to get into it, but very good Guy Ritchie movie.  Collin Farrell and Hugh Grant were great. Give it a birdie.
    • Played in the Rhode Island CC Senior Member guest, my partner and I won the tournament. 2-day Stableford format, we ended with 104 points, won by 7. Points include 2 holes on each 9, where both players score count, can make up some points if you both play well on those holes.  @DaveP043has played a similar format (I played with Dann from RICC).
    • Played Wannamoisett CC on Monday.  What a neat old Donald Ross course, Par 69.  The conditions were immaculate, might be one of the best maintained courses, I've played.
