Never said I got to par 5's in 2.  I typically hit driver, then 5w or 4i to advance the ball, and that leaves me typically 60-100 yards on my 3rd shot.

The courses I play usually don't have any par 5's over 500 yds.  Normally high 400's low 500's.

Hopefully I am on in 3 and make a putt or at least lag close and make par.

I have almost the the same set-up except I don't carry a 4-iron, I carry a 4-hybrid, and I play with 13 clubs... my suggestion is stick with the 13 clubs, your scores will improve much faster with less clubs. That's just my honest opinion.

Getting a legit ball fitting is not just banging balls in the simulator.  As you mention, those things can be inconsistent and inaccurate.  The ball fitting stations, at least any I've seen, are completely separate.  You're not hitting into the video screen watching simulated ball flights.  It's a separate area with completely separate and more accurate sensors.

As for the numbers they provide, I've seen variations.  Basically, they'll have you hit 7-10 balls with your driver using whatever ball you currently play with the software measuring your average.  Afterward, you'll get some kind of printout -- sometimes with the list of balls in order that best fit you for distance, dispersion, etc. and I've seen printouts that include all the data I mentioned (swing speed, ball speed, spin rate, side spin, launch angle, etc).  I'd just ask and if your printout won't include that information, I'd just right down the averages to take with you.

Not saying thought that a proper fitting wouldn't do me good.

My concern is, are the numbers that Golf Galaxy gives me going to be accurate.

Their simulator always seems inconsistent yardage wise.

When you get a ball fitting, what all numbers do they provide?

I think Bridgestone is showing up at GG in early August for free ball fittings.  Perhaps I could try that approach and see what kinda numbers they give me.

I wouldn't be opposed to paying $20-30 for accurate numbers either.

If the driver tests show you should keep the 13*, you might add the 7W for the reasons Mad Max suggested.

Pretty much this.  However I wouldn't just carry 14 clubs because you can... if you honestly can't think of a situation on the course where a 14th club would be beneficial to you then stick with what you got.  Sometimes having too many options can hurt you.

My mistake. That's one thing I really want to be able to do in the next year is get on there in 2.  Currently even when I hit my 3 wood about 240, and if I am 200 to 220 away,  I will usually lay up and try to get close to the flag with a sand wedge so that I can have a chance at a birdie.  I used to always go for it but then I'd usually turn a par or bogey into a triple bogey.  I would still probably reccomend a 3 wood that you can hit off the fairway which is tough to do, but you seem to have most of the other distances in your bag.

I think for the time being I am going to stick with the current setup.

Maybe next year when funds are better I'll try the K15 3w or the new G20 3w.  Or perhaps try out a 3 or 4 hybrid as I need something to hit on longer higher rough shots.

I never really gave Adams hybrids a chance.  Probably try out those.

Getting back to the Adams - what I did is pick up a used 17° (2h) A4 hybrid & cut the shaft down to the same length as a 19° (3h) hybrid, so now I have essentially a STRONG 3H - I find it easier to hit off the fairway than the longer 2H, wiht a much lower ball flight.

I always walk the course so I often carry only 12 or 13 clubs.  It makes the walk far more enjoyable and is easier on my 50+ year old knees and ankles.  It makes club selection much easier as well.
