Sergio Spitting in the Cup!!

I've done chew on the course, but I used a cup. I've spit on the course, but not on the green...I just would have a problem with chew or a hocker on the green...esp. near the cup.

No problem with chew (done that w/ my handy chew cup) or spitting (done that too) on the course. Having a chew spit or a spit/hocker near the cup is different story...

I dont have a problem with chewing or spitting on the course. The point that I failed to get across is that we as a society need to grow up. Who cares about a little saliva? The chemicals used to keep the courses green will do a heck of alot more damage to us than a little spittle. Whats next? Are there going to be rules about farting on the tee box...? Its just rediculous!!!!!

Right on....I totally agree Rock. One of the problems I have with this unfortunate situation is that it somehow turned into a Europe bashing contest and lost sight of the issue. Who cares about Sergio spitting in the cup!!! I remember watching David Duvall wandering around the course with a big ol chew in. Nothing against chewing I have been trying to kick the habit for years. The point is where did David spit? On the course probably. You know I think the real nasty habit is spitting sunflower seeds all over the greens.

The fact is they're to different things. You're spitting on the fairway or rough, chances of a ball and that spit coming together are pretty slim. I made the point already spitting on the course is part of the game. Deliberatly spitting in the cup isnt, If it was customary for everyone to just hock one in the cup after holing out im sure the PGA tour would carry a much different image. Spitting in the cup is knowingly exposing other people to your bodily fluids. Im not necesarrily a germaphobe but i dont even want to touch my girlfriends spit. Its gross plain and simple. and "I didnt spit, I just let it go down" ... wtf is that, spitting is when saliva comes out of your mouth jack ass. Honestly maybe its not the biggest deal in all of sports but it bothers me and it will bother alot of folks. and thanks for the link Iacas

There's no "benefit of the doubt" to give here. What are you smoking? He's on camera spitting into the cup. There's no "doubt" - he spat in the cup. It's undeniable.

It's also "conduct unbecoming a member of the PGA Tour" and thus warrants a fine. Heck, I'd seriously consider disallowing his entry in the PLAYERS this year because of it. It casts a bad light on golf, which is still very much a gentleman's game. It wasn't an accident - and he didn't even apologize for his actions later, saying "it's not a big deal." Clearly it is.

Thank you - that was the original point when I started this thread. I happen to agree with you. I'll be optomistic and assume that anyone defending him did not see the tape even though there was a link provided earlier. I just don't want to see golf go the way of some other professional sports and lose its integrity.
