Took delivery of a set of TM Firesole irons, tour edition.  These have the graphite pro launch shafts.  Anyways set consists of 2-pw.  Only used the 4-pw and had my Nickent 3DX with me too.  These consist of the 3 and 4 hybrid I bought but only took the 4.  Long story short wind kicked up wicked along Lake Ontario so seemed to be playing a lot of longer shots which stands to reason.  Hybrids have the regular flex shaft and have to tell ya the regular feels like an X stiff to me.  Hit them low, which considering the conditions was a good thing probably but with a notable slice.  So not that I ever play long irons really, never really have truth be told, but figured what the heck.

I gotta tell ya just very slightly open the club, take an open position at address and swing big you know a big arc or try to, but easy and voila even into the teeth of the wind which was extraordinary got just a good boring flight.  Way way easier to hit the 4 iron than the hybrid.  You could actually feel the shaft kick which I think is a good thing.  When the wind was quartering into me though I tended to hook the ball big which made me think to open my stance a bit and open the club a bit.  Did the same thing with the DX-4 but just didn't seem to work at all.  On a par 3 at 205 yds with the wind quartering into me left to right hit a draw and hit left of the green slightly longer than pin high.  For me that is an accomplishment.  Especially with the way the wind kicked up.  Coming up 17 I was bent over into it with everything flapping hard, pant legs, towels, head cover etc.etc.  Kind of fun actually.

So that is my story easiest to hit long iron(s) I have ever owned and I own more than a few sets now.  I like that kick thing too.  Don't seem to feel that on the pw-7 iron though.  Matter of fact it feels better hitting the 4 and 5 than it does the higher irons.  So go figure.  I also have a set of Firesoles that aren't the tour models and can't find any real discern-able difference in the heads at least to me.  So I might combine the long irons of the tour models with the steel shafts of the other set.  Ok that's it thanks for listening.

    • God I hate when golf can’t give me n+1 day of success. Drives me up the wall when my body is, FU! Im like, ok let’s check the vid. Yep too much turn, arms getting behind me. Ok, I work on that. Get the feel back for a shorter swing. Confirm with video. Then going back to arms down stuff.  Arms down, nope it’s hands out towards the ball. Oh, you get arms down better. Guess what, you don’t get to rotate and you hit 6 inches behind the ball. Yay!  Maybe I should have walked off the range and not wasted my time. I wish there was a body alert system when it’s going to a SOB for the day. 😭 OK rant over, I’ll be back at this tomorrow.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
