Hello all,

I just joined this site since I've followed the reviews and blog regularly and it seems like a lot of knowledgeable golfers are members here. Anyhow, I'm debating upgrading some clubs in my set but I'm not sure if it's worth it. I'm roughly a bogey golfer (typical shoot 15-20 over par) so I would put myself in the mid-level handicap range. Here are my clubs in a nutshell:

* Cleveland Launcher 460 Driver (2005)

* Sonartec SS 3.5 3 wood (2004)

* Adams Idea 2I Hybrid A2 OS (2006)

* Cleveland TA6 Irons (3I-PW) (2005)

* Cleveland CG10 wedges (56 & 60) (2007)

* Odyssey White Hot XG #9 Putter (2007)

I really like my wedges and putter so I'm mostly looking to upgrade the driver, irons and fairway wood. I'm currently looking at picking up a set of used Mizuno MP-58 5I-PW for only $300. They are in excellent condition so I'm leaning towards getting them. Given my skill level would I benefit from using the MP-58s over my TA6s? My Cleveland clubs have really been great for me so I also wouldn't mind looking at the CG16 irons. Also, what recommendations do you guys have for a driver and fairway wood?

Any advice is good advice!

Thanks!

I typically have a short, high ball flight. When I hit the ball clean, it usually has a bit of a fade. I would classify my swing as slow (I forgot to mention my current iron shafts are stiff but I have a feeling I should be using regular flex).

typically a fade type shot suggests your shafts are too stiff as your hands are going past the ball before your club does because you dont have the power to pull the club in line fast enough . .

Personally i think the cleveland irons are a good solid piece of kit but if the shafts are wrong it could be holding back your development rate

That's what I'm starting to think. I've drastically changed my swing since I started using the Cleveland irons. I am thinking of purchasing irons with regular flex since the cost of re-shafting the Cleveland's wouldn't really be worth it.

I would also expect the TA6's to be slightly more forgiving than the MP's.

Another cause of fading can be grips that are too thick. This also restricts hand action.

Check your clubhead speed on a launch monitor if possible; if you have decent speed with your fades, it might be a grip problem. Don't spend $$ on R-flex irons until you make sure that's the solution.
