guys, im confused as hell, ive been working on my swing and im really flushing every iron club now nicely, pw/9/8/7 i can judge really well, and they go the sort of distance i expect,

but my 6iron and 5iron only go marginally the same as my 7 iron,

I had a second shot into a par 5 last night, 171 yards on gps to go, and i flushed my 5 iron, slightly right of target, but came 60 yards short,

now i know im not a pro, and my concept of "flush" probably isnt the same as a high capper, but i dont get the inconsistent distance with these 2 clubs,

could it just be that being a really cheap set im getting all I can from them?

i played a 174 yard par 3 afterward and anihilated a 6 iron, i couldnt of swang quicker and harder if i tried, yet still came up short by 20 odd yards

is it me or the clubs?

Are you taking a divot? What does it look like? Does it begin before or after where the ball was sitting? Where do you align the ball in your stance? Does it shift by club?

Posted

ball is played slightly left of centre, 1 ball or so from middle

divot is directly infront of the ball, starting from the balls lie, aiming straight down target line

No 5 iron ever sold commercially is gonna come up 60 yards short on a 170 yard shot when hit "flush" with a swing speed over like 40mph.

If I were you Id video your swing and head over the the Instruction and Playing tips forum. To see if anyone has anything for you over there.

When I started out I had this problem too was related to my swing.  I was using too much arm and not enough body - not coiling up enough.  Also I wasn't hitting down on the ball to take advantage of the reduced loft of the lower irons.  As others stated, it would be best to let the experts on here review your swing on video.
