Jacks 12 hole course......

Just wondering what everyone thought of the article in Golf Digest last month in which Jack Nicklaus talked about his intentions to design 12 hole golf courses to accommidate people who don't have the time to play 4 1/2 hour 18 hole rounds...

It is definately a novel idea. It is very easy to squeeze in 6 holes before work, during a long lunch etc.

My buddy runs a local course here in Utah and me and some work pals will pay for 18 and play 6 on Monday morning - the next 6 a day or two later and then finish out the last 6 on Friday.

We have been asked several times to "hook people up" with the same deal so I think the interest is definately there.

I think it's a terrific idea, although I think 4 1/2 hour rounds are less of a problem than the 5 1/2 hour rounds.

My local course shoots for 2:09 at the turn, and they usually beat it, even on weekend mornings.

Of course, as the head pro told me: "If you want to play early on weekends, be under 2:00 or we'll shoot you."

I rather like the idea. Just like there are executive courses and pitch-and-putt places, why not a place with fewer holes? LA locals know there's a course around here with 15 holes and a "back six" rate on some mornings, but the count of holes is because LAX took 3 of what used to be 18.

Too bad that'd be an empty threat here in California; otherwise, I'd be suggesting other places add that rule.

This is the one beauty of living in a small rural community. The course isn't usually busy. I went out with a buddy Sunday morning and we played 27 holes in under 4 hours. There were only 6 groups on the course so we flew.

The only slow rounds of golf we have to endure here are on men's league night. 3 1/2 hours for 9 holes. It takes so long to play, I ended up marrying the booze cart girl.... NO JOKE..

I was thinking more like 36 Holes. If you want a quick game why don't you just play a 9 hole course? or just play nine at a 18 hole course? but a 12 hole course from jack would be nice.

Yeah that's so true. Until I moved to Kansas City and started playing city muni courses, I hardly ever had a round that took over 4:00.

Good in theory, but around here most all the course have one green fee. I'd love to play 9 holes three or four times a week like I did when I was younger and had unlimited access to a course. Most courses here you pay for 18 holes regardless of how many you play. Most have a "twilight rate" after some time late in the afternoon, but unfortunately that's when the weather is like an oven here in the summer, the courses fill up with people playing after work and playing 9 holes takes 2:30 to 3:00. Carts are mandatory at a lot of courses too (either course policy, the tee boxes are a mile apart or the courses are just brutal to walk). That means you could end up paying $40+ to play 9 holes.

I think next year I am going to get a membership at one of the area courses (as much as I like playing a lot of different courses) so that I have a place I can go and just play a few holes, unlimited practice, driving range, etc. This year I've made it my goal to play about 10-12 of the top public courses here so I can figure out which one I like best and is convenient for me.
