It seems like everytime I venture off to another course they always sand their greens just before I show up. I am getting fed up with this whole sanding of the greens thing. Sure it may help them in the long run but I get into a slump when this happens. Anyone else have the same problem as me?

It just depends on what time of the year it is I live on a course and play everyday, they've only done a sand-down and drilled the greens once this year. I believe they do it a lot more often during the summer.

I'm not sure why you'd get in a slump. I play the ball a little further forward when putting and plan on missing an extra putt or two, but otherwise I don't worry about it. I take it into account for pitches and chips and approaches (ball doesn't stick as much), but beyond that... I'm happy to have nice, nice, greens the rest of the year. If they didn't aerate and and, you'd have no greens at all.

All the courses in this area aerate and top dress the greens in early spring or late fall. What I hate is when they don't tell me they are doing it when I make a tee time. A course should let players know that they planning on aerating on a certain day so they can expect it or play elsewhere.

Most good courses will aerate twice a year and top dress. They will verticut (thin slice marks)3 more times but they only last 2 or 3 days.Core aeration is vital for the bent grass to breath and CREEP as they call it all summer.Top dressing is 90/10 90 percent sand and 10 percent peat. Here on Long Island they are trying water aeration which has no holes.Jury still out.
