Woods has undergone another surgery, this time to his left Achilles tendon, which was ruptured recently during training.

Well, it's time for Tiger to retire.  His body is falling apart.

I'd forgotten about that one. It was still 2019 though, but the 19-20 season.

Not even 50 years old and falling apart. You've got to wonder - lifestyle? swing technique? heredity? or something else? Yes, we are all aware of the major accident, but for someone who has physically done "everything" to make himself one of the greatest golfers of all time, you have to wonder. Don't think I've known any golfer in the past that has gone through so many injuries and surgeries.

It's golf. It's not NFL football. Name one top pro golfer who has been injured half as many times as Tiger. Jack? Arnie? Snead? Hogan? Just seems unusual for a 50 year old golfer to be injured as much as Tiger. Otherwise, the PGA Tour would be riddled with injured players.

Golf puts tremendous strain on the body. Especially with how fast Tiger was swinging the club.

Were any of them trying to be the best in the world at age 40+? Easy to stay relatively injury free under the age of 35, then cut the work load down as you age. Tiger went at it longer than anyone outside of Phil in trying to maintain #1 status.

I may be wrong, but I believe most golfers in their later years of their careers, if they suffer spinal injuries, usually fade away.  Tiger was one extreme exception.   His drive to excel has carried him pass most other's injuries.

Seems like Jack was pretty "old" when he won his last Masters. And Gary Player is still playing, despite being a fitness freak all his life. Years ago, Cary Middlecoff stated that Tiger was going to have back problems after he reached the age of 30, due to the body torque he used in his swing. But Tiger has also had plenty of issues with the rest of his body. And the car crash certainly didn't help. Has any golfer been as "injury prone" as Tiger?

You're missing the fact that Tiger changed the game. Golfers put far more strain and stress on their bodies now than they did fifty freaking years ago. The sport is different now. It's faster, and you have to be significantly better now to even make it to the PGA Tour let alone stay there than you did in Jack's day.

And I believe Tiger will still be playing at Gary’s age as Gary is playing now. To @iacas’s point, Tiger changed the golf is played and I imaging we will see the younger generations having medical records similar to Tiger’s…they just haven’t caught up yet.

Jack played in 7 tournaments in 1986. He was on his way out. He was not training or trying to be the best in the world. Honestly, he just caught some good golf at the right time. 

Who says Jack wasn't battling injuries at that time either? A lot of stuff wasn't reported on until post 2000 in terms of covering athletes.

At what capacity? He can play, but he can't compete at any sort of level for the PGA or Senior Tour.

Genetics and many injuries are something of a lottery. I can think of tons of athletes whose careers were cut a lot shorter by injury than Tiger Woods. Yao Ming, Gale Sayers, Bo Jackson (arguably one of the greatest pure athletes of all time), Greg Oden, Jay Williams. If you're looking for golfers Michelle Wie battled injuries her entire career. Geoff Ogilvy's career was definitely cut short by injury. Babe Zaharias (spelling?) career was wrecked by cancer. These are ones I can think of off the top of my head. As far as Tiger goes. The man's had two spine surgeries, a knee replacement and been in a pretty severe car wreck that left him with open fractures of both his tibia and fibula bones.

      the rules have changed, but this would fall under 11.2 in the current rules.  General Penalty to any player who deliberately deflects a ball in motion, and you must replay the putt.

      Day 250 4-29 Getting chest through with speed on downswing and wrist arch. Also worked on some moving the pelvis slightly away in the backswing. Feel like im going too fast and long, looks like it on the recordings too.

      Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.

      Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.

      Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
