Isn't it high chance of rain all weekend? When I was looking it was like 60% Saturday and Sunday.

For Dayton,

Basically you might get a small shower, very light from 9 AM to 2 PM Saturday. Then the chance for higher intensity picks up greatly through the evening and thru Sunday.

Basically :censored: this weather.

Well ... I'll head out to either Miami Shores or Kittyhawk early, shooting for 9am and look to get in 18. I'll try to check once more if I have any takers before I leave.

This is a stupid game. Right after I posted this, I finish the last 6 holes 1 over (2 bogies and 1 birdie).

So I did a tour of Miami Shores on Saturday. The greens are definitely very, very firm. I'm still seeing a bunch of yellow on them, but I don't think they are "dead".

I can appreciate @CarlSpackler 's point of view. Some pretty good shots to the green bounce and roll in some bad ways. He's got better options closer to home. For me, Miami Shores is the closest course to my home, so I feel sort of a need to defend it. Hopefully, the crew can get some work done on those greens soon.

They probably have blue grass that crept into the greens. When you get that you get the annual " Poa annua". This type of grass is basically a weed that burns off in the summer. It can get a yellowish-green color to them.

Perhaps it was an expectation thing. Everyone told me it was in awesome shape, etc. When I got there, I found bunkers that had no sand in them and not marked ground under repair. When I say half dead ngreens, I mean very yellow in spots and some were bald in the middle of the yellow. I hope they get it fixed up. I never expect pristine conditions on a muni, but this was not good IMO.

"Awesome shape" would have been a fairly massive exaggeration on Miami Shore's best day. In my opinion, the staff there does a good job with the little bit the fair City of Troy gives them to work with.

The ever-lasting sand trap project is an annoyance. From what I gather, this is being worked on as time allows basis. I suppose not having the ground under repair sign is poor. The local yokels just kind of assume it. I didn't see any bald spots on the greens. That would have been alarming.

Curious what a good weekend would be to get a few of you guys up here to play at one of the courses here. I haven't really picked a course yet, but I want to find out if it's even something that would happen before planning it.

Played the Hawk early afternoon on Saturday.  It was warm and very windy but the course seemed to be in pretty decent shape. Nothing really stood out to me as bad as far as course condition goes.  I don't really have anything to compare it to since it's the first time I've played the Hawk this year.  Hopefully that means they're getting it together?  I shot an 87.  Was hitting the ball pretty well and was guessing right on distances more often than not with the wind except for on the par 3's.  Was +9 on those four F'N holes. Didn't have one tee shot come anywhere close to landing on any one of the greens.  Oh well.  I was surprised there weren't more people on the course considering the weather we've had the last two weeks. Didn't have anyone in front of my foursome the entire day.  That was nice.

I'd be free Saturday morning this weekend.  Going to the Memorial on Sunday and will be out of town next weekend, so I'd be out for those.  Other than that I can make time on a Saturday or Sunday if I know in advance.

This weekend isn't good for me. I have a gig Saturday and play at church Sunday morning. I'm pretty sure there will be some major napping Sunday afternoon. I would definitely love to make it up that way sometime soon though.

It is definitely much better than earlier this spring, but the greens are not holding shots very well. I hit several crisp iron shots that hit pin high and didn't check at all. They didn't aerate this spring, so they're gonna be hard this year. I par'd both of them, but they should have been realistic birdie attempts.

I'll be at The Memorial Thursday and Friday. I'll be at a private residence on #15 Thursday and working on Friday. I'm not sure which hole yet.

    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
