A buddy of mine and I are going to play a round tomorrow, and we have a 10am tee time. He wants to play nine, take a lunch break with each of us just bringing a sack lunch, and then play the back nine. So my question is...what would be a good sack lunch to take on with me? I don't want to eat rabbit food and feel hungry for the rest of the round, but I also don't want to get that heavy feeling for the final nine holes. Thoughts and advice? Thanks ahead of time.

Won't stopping to eat lunch throw things off? You'll invariably have to wave groups through... and then what - try to jump in between two groups?

For that reason I think you should take a lunch you can eat while you continue your round . A peanut butter sandwich or something.

I vote sandwich as well. They keep without a cooler, they've got some protein and carbs, you can eat it with just your hands, and you don't have to eat it all at once. Add an apple and a granola bar or two and that should hold you. Just do everything you can to not hold up play. If you can, keep the sack with you and eat in the cart between shots. If not, make sure to tell the groups behind you to play through.

I think his idea was to pull the cart off to the side and sit so groups could just play through and then pick our spot to get back on. Not sure how busy a course on the outskirts of Pittsburgh will be on a Monday morning. I dunno...I've only played 45 holes in my entire life and all have been in the afternoon, lol. The PB sandwich sounds like a good idea.

Really?

You're asking the internet what to have for lunch?

And the internet is answering?

Interesting.  I wonder too - how do any of us know what would work for him?  One person's heavy lunch is another man's snack.  And too, if he was playing my home course, they might never get back on for the back 9.  If it's me, I eat while I play rather than try to squeeze back in somewhere.

    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
    • Day 580 - 2026-05-04 Played eight holes. Sometimes golf kicks you in the nuts. 😉
