90 is the "bad score" line for me.  if i shoot 85-89, i'll gripe that i had an off day, but if i cross 90, i just go silent and don't even want to talk about it, haha.  fortunately those 90s don't show up very often anymore... i can only recall three rounds that were higher than 89 this year.

I think the worst number I put up this year was 83.  I had an 87 in November '11 (and I received a text message from a guy in my league with a picture of custom MyJoys on them - one shoe said '87' and the other said 'I SUCK' - tough crowd).

Shot a 97 in a tournament a few weeks ago. Worst in many years. I'd been around 80 most of the year but on this day it was like I had forgotten how to hit my irons.

Hummmm. I generally am 'happy' w/a score below an 85.  A week or so ago I shot a 78, par'd holes, 1, 2, 4, 7, and 17 w/1 putt.  Drives were just ugly, so the round wasn't as much fun, so to speak, as an 83 w/good quality shot making and poor putts...like the 2 birdie wash w/a double on a par 3!  Funny game we're hooked on...for me the score is good, but I would much rather hit quality shots tee to green.  In my avatar I hit 14 GIR's that day and finished w/a 90 on the card....W. Palm has some wild greens!!  I was very happy that day.

i shot an 81 with a double and a triple the other day but it was a solid round except for those 2 holes. anything over 80 I complain. anything over 85 and I want to cut my clubs in half with an angle grinder. anything over 90 I give up the game (for about 36 hours and then I come back to reality and hit the range) I swear golf makes you bi-polar

    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
    • Day 580 - 2026-05-04 Played eight holes. Sometimes golf kicks you in the nuts. 😉
