Like the title says, do you have a most embarrassing golf moment? And if so, what was it?

16th hole at Sugar Bay in Warsaw, Kentucky. 520-ish par 5. I tried to kill the ball off the tee, and only succeeded in hitting the heel of the club. It dribbled about 30 feet to the left and nailed a small concrete sign telling you how many yards the hole was. The ball bounced back straight at me, missing by like three feet and ending up some 30 yards behind the tee box.

I then teed off again...and managed to do the exact same thing again.

Wow, that's pretty good haha. Mine was during the first tournament ever I was in contention for. I was 14 and it was my first full year of golf, I was shooting in the 90's the early part of the year but for some reason I busted out with an 84 for this tournament. However, some other kid shot an 84 (13-14 division) and we went to a sudden death playoff, keep in mind this is the THIRD tournament I ever did. We tee'd off and I hit a beautiful drive down the middle while the other guy went into the trees, however, he managed to get on the green in 3 (par 4) and 2 put for a bogey. My approach landed a bit short and my chip was horrendous because I decided to be "cool" and use a fairway metal. So I blast the ball about 25 feet past the cup and need to 2 putt for a push and make it for the win. I come up about 1-1.5 feet short, so I walk over to tap it in.....AND MISSED THE TAP IN! The ball wasn't even that close, it BARELY grazed the rim of the cup. Needless to say I was demoralized and the entire gallery was dead silent.

*Runs into the back and cries* Haha

This happend 2 years ago in a high school state championship tournament. The 18th hole was a 540-550 par 5, slight dogleg left. I hit a great drive past the corner about 280. So I'm sitting in the fairway with about 260 deciding if I sould hit (the group ahead was almost on the green). I chose to wait for the green. Everyone else in my group has alread hit and there are now 2 groups on the tee waiting for me, as well as a considerable gallery by the green. Finally when it was time to hit, I chunked the hell out of it and it advanced about 80 yards.

Fore!

Oh man, I could picture that so easily for some reason. I think we have a new leader right here hahaha.

Yeah, that's one of the rules of golf there.

You can either immediately shank a lay-up or wait for them to clear off, and then top the ball halfway there.

Mine aren't as spectactular but no less embarrissing. :)

I started playing golf at 14 by taking a week long summer golf camp. I remember on one of the days being at the driving range hitting balls when I lost the grip on my club, promptly throwing it down the driving range. Of course I threw it so far that every one had to stop hitting balls while the club was retrieved.

My second moment occurred on the tee. I took a mighty swing and the ball immediately went 90 degrees to the right and only stopped when it hit a metal trash can with a thunderous clang. Whoops.

Somewhat along the same lines as the last post: I had just gotten new clubs (Nickent GH Plus irons) and took them to the range the same day. I'm not sure if it was too hot in my trunk or what, but I pulled out the six iron and took a nice cut at the ball. Suddenly the club felt really light in my hands and I looked down the range to see the head of my six iron bouncing 120 yards away. The ball went about the same distance. Needless to say I got all the heads on those irons reglued for free at Nevada Bob's.

It's a toss up for me which is the most embarassing, walking backwards to line up a putt and falling in to a bunker in front of the clubhouse with plenty of people watching or walking backwards to line up a putt and falling in to a lake with just my playing partners watching.

This made me laugh.

Mine was on the range. I had a ball on the mat, and took practice swing. I was standing too close the ball though, and the toe edge of the club grazed the ball, causing it to shoot straight into my pile of range balls. They sprayed everywhere, but mostly around the feet of the guy practicing next to me. I was mortified.

This made me laugh.

I have you beat, I think... on the range, I hit the toe of my driver once, and it nailed a telephone pole about 40 yards out on the right side. The ball flew back at me like a bullet and I had to dodge out of the way

I've also hit the extreme toe of the club and watch the ball rocket into my pile of waiting range balls, although never at someone else's feet...

I was playing pennant for my local club and was on the first tee about to hit off. The clubhouse was directly behing me with an open door about 30 yards in front of me (still behind). I managed to hit the heel of the club and the ball went into the open door of the clubhouse, bounced around in there a little and came trickling out onto the fairway/garden bed directly in front of the clubhouse.

I must add that we had quite a large gallery watching and it was the first time I had made the senior pennant team as a junior! Luckily the day did improve and i managed a win 4 and 3.

I got all of you beat by a mile....Try squirting your pants while swinging too hard on the first hole of a course youve been waiting to play for months. I won't go in to details, but thankfully our house was on the fourth hole so I was able to change my panties.

There was one time a buddy of mine (who will remain anonymous) managed to hit the heel of his driver off the first tee. The ball squirted out to the left, nailed a tree about 30 yards out, bounced off further to the left, into the parking lot - and on top of a van, where it stayed. To this day, we never got a ruling on that. Or, we could talk about the one time I teed off on the 10th hole (having being sent off on the back 9 to begin), I pull out my driver (a Wilson Killer Whale at the time), held it parallel to the ground, and watched in disbelief as the head fell to the ground of it's own accord, completely lifeless.

I don't know if this is a GOLF moment as much as a drinking moment but here goes. Last summer I got a 4 man scamble team together for this huge tournament a local oil company sponsers. Before the tourney there's always a calcutta (sp) where they auction the teams off. I bought our team and we ended up winning the whole thing. I made about $3,000 off of it so I proceeded to get HAMMERED with my teammates. At about 1:00 am, we were having a "chip off" hitting balls off the clubhouse deck to the 18th green. It was pitch black so we made a bet. The person who hit it the farthest from the pin had to strip naked and pick up everyone elses shot. I lost, and as I was picking them up one of my "buddies" ran inside and told the bartenders to turn on the outside lights because "there was an elk on the 18th green. Instead of seeing an elk, they all got to see me rushing to get my clothes back on!! I've yet to live it down!!

I hit my tee shot on #1 and snap-hooked the ball into a tree that was about 20 yds away. The ball shot straight up into the air and landed about an inch from the pin on #18. Of course someone was playing on #18 at the time and asked, good-naturedly, if I would like to putt out.
