Why is it that one day you just flush everything and the following day you just got nothin. I think for me some days my body just does not move as good as others. I have a few back issues, but its not really an excuse physically, but maybe mentally. Sometimes it plays no part at all, I just leave my rhythm at home..Who else suffers from this and what do you do when your into your round to overcome the problem??

Timing I suppose. Slight differences in the swing can throw out or align other compensations so you can hit it well. The better players have less compensations so they dont have many terrible rounds like we do.

For me its usually, does the game seam fast or slow for me. Sometimes i just feel like i am moving to fast. My walking pace, my swing, my urgency, my thinking, my putting. Those rounds go down hill fast. I am usually playing my best when i am thinking slower, and moving with ease. Like if you were just taking a stroll outside, just enjoying the day.

It happened to me yesterday.  I don't get to the course much but hit a lot of balls at my local range.  On Friday last week I had one of the best ball striking sessions that I have ever had.  Yesterday I was hitting the ball thin and in trying to compensate by staying down on it I dug into the ground with a 6 iron and felt a twinge in my back.  Of course, I kept swinging and today, two days before I start a  week of vacation, my back is giving me problems.  I can't explain what happens to the swing either.  I only know that every day is a new day.  I can't ever predict how I'm going to hit the ball, no matter that on some days I think I might have found an answer to a swing fault and the next day that solution doesn't work because some other swing issue might have arisen.

I agree with this completely. I am also a copious offender. Some of us have pretty good swings and at the range we can play like a hero. Then we get to a golf course and virtually putt the ball from the tee to the hole; okay maybe not, but you get my humor, no? hehehe

This one made me laugh... For years and years we have joked about having a great round and the problem being we will now have to go to sleep, and doing that will automatically make your great swing into something uncontrollable.  It makes you want to stay up all night just to keep the magic (which of course would not work either.)  I am always astonished when a pro wins a tournament with four excellent rounds in the sixties... amazing accomplishment.  I have managed to shot a 66 followed by an 80 the next day on a tour course setup from the tips -- and for the life of me, I cannot tell you why one day was so good and the other so bad..

Dat chit is funny!  After a good/great round, I usually play hole after hole in my head while I lay down.  then, NOTHING the next round  Funny!  What a game we're hooked on!  It is indeed amazing how these Pro's do it day in and day out.

Well, I knew I wasnt going to be alone, but some good insight into what other people think it is that causes the problem with them. I played 18 today. Was 1 over at the turn. I was hitting the ball much better. Not perfect, but much better than Saturday and Monday. My last 6 holes were bombed drives and great approach shots. Really got the ball working right to left off the tee and trapping the irons nicely. Will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings....thanks for the input.

I have a saying when I am approaching the ball on the first tee, I usually say "OK, let's see who's playing today".  I usually get a laugh from my buddies on the first tee when I say it, some days I can go out and shoot mid to high 70's then the next mid to high 80's even 90's. It just don't make sense!

Not a believer in biorhythms but has to been something to do with the water in our bodies and gravitational forces or something in our heads.   I keep a fairly strict routine and notebook that tracks my rounds and range sessions and have yet to find a variable I can point to that would be the cause for swinging great one day and shanking the next.

    • Day 125 12-15 Half swings with flow drill. Focused on rhythm, loading trail side then getting to lead side correctly. Hit a few foam balls but mostly drilling without ball.
    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
