Do any of y'all have wifes, daughters, etc.. that are good players and using a Regular flex in their clubs?  My daughter is 14 and really starting to really get her game going.  At the last HS tournament she shot a 93 and has been steadily improving.  The local pro at our club told me that most of the stronger females play mens clubs in regular flex, and even mentioned his really good girls are moving away from graphite to lightweight steel.

Any idea what her driver swing speed is?  If 80mph or over then yes she is probably in too light a flex if she is playing a ladies flex.

The best bet would be to take her a clubfitter in your area and have her swing speed measured on a shot analyzer.  I saw a high school girl swinging in the simulator at Dicks the other day.  She had what I thought was a very strong swing for a girl her size.  The guy there had her swinging men's Senior flex which are inbetween Ladies and Mens Regular flex.

Yes, I figured that is what I am going to have to do, and was thinking Senior flex was probably the next step.  She hits her driver (14 degree) I built around 180 to 190, and at least once a round she will really bust one past 200.

I volunteered at the 2009 USGA Women's Amateur at Old Warson CC in St. Louis. Did a stint as both a "sign boy" and a range worker.

On the range, I got to talk to the women about their club mix and set make-up. A fair number of the women played regular flex shafts. Some of the college women played a PX 5.5 flex or equivalent.

One factor is height. A woman 5-foot-8 or taller - especially one with experience in other sports - may have both the strength and height leverage to use R-flex clubs.

Again, the key factor is clubhead speed.

Also, consider the weight of the shaft and its effect on total weight of the club. In Golf My Way , Jack Nicklaus cautioned about fatigue problems when amateurs end up with two 18-hole matches in a day, Jack says too-heavy clubs can be difficult to control near the end.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I was at Dicks the other day and noticed what I think was a Callaway Women's driver that had a shaft that said "designed for women with faster swing speeds".

Felt pretty much like a men's senior flex to me.

As a shorter male golfer with a slower swing speed this almost had me intrigued as I am always looking for a shorter driver with some flex to it but not too whippy.  Downside they don't have a launch monitor so I was unable to hit it.  It was on clearance for $99.

Seemed like a steal.

To add some info to my last post.  The driver was a Womens Callaway Solaire with "A Flex" which the sticker says that its designed for Women with a more "Athletic" swing.

First and only time I've ever seen an "Athletic ladies flex"

    • I generally like par-3 courses and find it a darn shame that the last of them closed in my area during the pandemic. Part of it may have to do with the fact that I never have been very good with the longer clubs, so the short holes are a bit more my speed.  Being able to get in 18 holes in two hours was pretty convenient and, ironically, the lack of crowds made them peaceful places to be. Naturally, that's the same reason they no longer exist around here.  The second option sounds like a whole lot of no fun.
