All good advice. I'm a "short hitter" and regularly beat a lot of my golf buddies who are younger and hit the crap outta the ball, but from 150 yds. in I kill them.

My high school golf coach was a 75 yr. old retired banker. He was about 5' 7" and couldn't have weighed over 165 lbs. He didn't have a club in the bag that went over 185-190 yds. but he hit every shot dead straight and regularly shot in the upper 70's and low 80's.

He was a great coach and always told us "it's not how far the shot goes but where it ends up that matters".

What's in my bag (most of the time)

Are you talking about carry distance or are you including roll?

Carry distance it what you should be worried about and not how far your ball ended up.

Nothing like being wet when you can hit a 190yrd 6 iron but only carry it 175.....

If you have a really slow swing speed I would check to see if regular flex is too stiff....assuming you are using regular flex shafts.

Couldn't agree more. Being long off the tee will win you manliness competitions, but not necessarily much else - even long drive contests usually require one to hit into a certain area. Just the other day, I was on the tee box of a par 5, I missed the ball slightly, and watched it pull and then fade back into the fairway, about 240 yards out. My father (whom I usually outdrive but I had really been kicking his ass that day) got up and tried to kill the ball. He

did out-drive me on that hole...the difference being that he was in the cabbage and behind a tree, whilst I was in the short grass. A good 3-Wood shot and a wedge left me putting for birdie, while he got a double, I think, on that hole.

I think it was Lee Trevino who said, "The woods are full of long drivers."

Dunno. But, the best wood most golfers have is the pencil.

I call bullshit on about half of the posts here. :) I hit my 6-iron about 180. My 7-iron goes about 158. Then again, I rarely play a full shot inside of 200 yards.

I'm not a big Iron hitter.

My driver - 275 yds (with some roll obviously)
3IW hybrid - 200 yds
4 iron - 180 yds
5 iron - 165 yds
6 iron - 155 yds
7 iron - 145 yds
8 iron - 130 yds
9 iron - 120 yds
PW - 110 yds
52 degree wedge - 100 yds
lob wedge - 55 yds

There's my distances. I'm only 15 and I'm pretty lean(5-5, 130), so I don't hit it a great distance

I hit the 6-iron between 170 and 175 yards (mostly from the tee).
Have the say that I'm not the biggest Person (167cm), so I think the distance is not to bad....

I can realistically say that on a good day, I can probably crank the 6 iron about 160 yards. Obviously, that's give or take depending on the weather, whether or not the green's uphill, if I mis-hit, et cetera. My average is closer to 155, if I nuke it, maybe 165-170.

Just got the mizuno MX-19's and i believe i hit my 6 around 165 with no wind in the face, with no elevation..and that is not me trying to crush it, just a nice easy swing..prob close to 175+ if i crush it.
