I have been playing golf for many years and have been fitted for irons 10 years ago. I stopped by a Golf Etc store to ask about their Performance Fitting Center; $300 for woods and irons computer fitting. I am a 12 handicap and wonder if an expensive computer fitting is worth the money. I am planning to buy new irons next month.

It depends on two things: the skill of the clubfitters, and the calibration of their launch monitors, etc.

Being you have been playing for awhile and have a 12 HDCP, you could likely benefit from a full-blown, dynamic fitting. You might ask around a bit to see it this shop delivers good fittings or not.

Among other things, they should be able to help you adjust your wedge mix, and do a "gap analysis" to find your irons-hybrid cutoff point.

Fitting is worth it, but $300 is way expensive.  I've never seen fitting that expensive.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

This fitting is a "full- blown" dynamic fitting (2 to 3 hrs long). I am going to pass and spend the money on new irons. Thanks for the imputs.

No offense but that's a dumb idea.

Fittings shouldn't cost anywhere NEAR that amount, whether they're full blown or not. A perfect example is the full irons, woods and wedges fitting I had yesterday for free with Mizuno. They've provided everything I need to buy any irons I want to buy, Mizzy or not (I just happened to love the ones I hit yesterday).

Another option is to get a paid fitting which will then come off the final purchase of some irons. For my driver I paid £40 UKP for the fitting but if I bought a driver from them, the final price would be reduced by £40 UKP, effectively making the fitting a free one.

If you're not sure on your irons then definitely get fit but look around first. Buying a new set of irons blind could be the best purchase ever but also could be a big old waste of your money.

Call up the outfit that quoted you $300 and tell them you're happy to pay the money if they then take it off any irons you buy from them - If you don't ask, you don't get...

A full-blown dynamic fitting takes the better part of a day. Dynamic tries to find your golf equipment recipe and club mix for the next few years, and often involves a swing analysis as the base activity.

If they're just going to help you pick a RazR or TM R11 driver, and RazR X or Burner irons, $300 is a bit much. Anyway, a simple fitting for new irons is often included in the purchase price.

Just because their sign says Performance Fitting Center does not guarantee you'll get a full dynamic fitting . As lum suggests, find out for sure what you would get.

I agree with you all, I am not going to spend $300 on a "fancy" fitting session. Now the fun starts, finding NEW Irons with free fitting!

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
