Does anyone know any good strengthening exercises you can do at home? I'm looking to build up my golf strength a little without joining a gym.

thanks!

There's always swinging a medicine ball (or weighted club if your ceiling is high enough). I do this every morning, takes about ten minutes. I use a 12 lb medicine ball. I got the idea initially from Butch Harmon's _4 Fundamentals_ book, which also has other exercises, although I've seen the information repeated at places like MyTPI. How's your strength at the moment? If you're brittle or have health problems, you'll want to see a medical professional before starting any workout routine, no matter how simple it seems.

They have a few hundred golf-specific exercises along with video demonstrations. While some of them require things like cable machines, a substantial number of them require little more than free weights, or better yet, no weights/accessories at all.

It's far and away the most valuable golf fitness site I've found so far.

You could get a weighted golf club. Momentus makes a weighted iron and a weighted wood. They're pretty heavy and great to warm up with. I believe the iron is around $70 and the wood is like $80 at a golf store or pro shop.

If you don't want to spend that much on a club that can't be used, and dont care about name brands, Walmart has a weighted club just like the Momentus for $21. The only difference is the shaft is orange and personally to me it feels a little heavier. I will be picking one of these up soon.

love the TPI site. easily the best site i have ever seen for swing fixes ( except for the sandtrap of course)

Great site, I have been looking for some golf specific stretches. I work out with weights every morning but want to work on flexibility also.

Medicine ball is a great starting point. It also works some muscles for strength, too.

I started taking yoga about a month ago, and man, even for "yoga 1 (very beginning yoga)" and just a month, my flexibility has improved. I haven't played a round since, or even hit the driving range other than one small bucket (preping for quals takes most of my time), but when I do, I have a feeling I'll have some improvement. If not in score, at least some length issue. So I can't promise yoga will translate to golf, but if you have access to it, it will help with flexibility.

I'll have to check it out...I have heard of Yoga for golfers. I think my local community college offers it.

Local CC offers a yoga specific for golfers? Good, I think... although someone (I can't remember where I read this) said that if it isn't taught by someone who plays and knows golf, then "yoga for golfers" is either "yoga for everyone" or "stretching for golfers". But give it a try and let us know.

    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.

    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
