And I'm considering making the change as well. Right now my set goes Driver, 18 degree hybrid then 3-pw then 52, 56, 60. I was playing with 15 because I had a 3 wood in that set as well, but we won't discuss why it's no longer in my bag . I'm considering getting a 4 wood and pulling the 18 degree hybrid and not feel like a cheater but still keep all my wedges. I feel like I get enough distance with my driver( anywhere from 285-310) that I don't really ever need to use a 3 wood on par 5's, at least not where I've been playing, and I never really use it off the tee much either. I seemed to use my 18 degree hybrid much more than the 3 wood when I had it. So I'm thinking a 4 wood would be a good trade off to keep good spacing between my driver and my 3 iron. But the big thing is if I do this is that I'm left handed. From what I've seen Titleist and the G series for Ping are the only fairways that come in a 17 degree 4 wood for lefties. Anyone know of any that I haven't found yet or maybe if there's an older model form someone that I've missed as well? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The best part about the Titleist (assuming you are talking about the 910 series) is knowing you have the wiggle room from 17* down to 16.25* and up to 17.75* and 18.5* to dial in that exact distance you want.

I'm all about yardages (and yardage gaps) but I can never see pulling my 3-wood for me personally.  There are many courses I play that I  *could* hit driver but shouldn't due to the fact that I don't need too and issues may arise if I do so I hit my 3-wood.  I pulled my 3-iron out years ago for a hybrid and can never see myself putting one back in.  More likely I'd pull my 4-iron out and put another hybrid in.  To me, hybrids are much easier to hit than long irons and I figure why not let technology work for me.  Plus as you stated you wanted, I still have 4 wedges in the bag (PW, GW, 54 and 58).

WHAT'S IN MY BAG

Driver: TaylorMade RBZ 9.5 degree; 3-Wood: TaylorMade RBZ 15 degree; Hybrids: TaylorMade RBZ 19 degree; Irons: Titleist AP1; Wedges: Titleist Vokey Spin Milled 54/60; Putter: Scotty Cameron Studio Select Fastback; Ball: Callaway Hex Chrome+  Grips:  PURE Pro

Yea that's always a plus too. I was thinking about getting an R11s 3 wood and just tuning it down to a 16.5 but I just don't think it'd be the same. And I don't know maybe I'm weird. But I can never really seem to find a need for a 3 wood. Maybe it could also be that I don't trust my short game within 100 yards to bother with hitting a 3 wood on the shorter par 4's for a more controlled tee shot and then wedge one on. Maybe once that starts comin around then I can re-assess the woods set up in my bag lol.

The best club decision I ever made was to dump the 3 & 5 wood and add the 4 wood. I hit the 4 just as far as any 3 plus it's much easier to hit off the deck.

Something else to consider is that a current model 4 wood has the same loft as a 15 year old 3 wood. The companies just keep jacking the lofts. Whats next a 13 degree 3 wood?

So does that make a strong 3 wood 12 degrees?

I had an old 12* Taylor Made 2 wood back in the 80s, and it was old then.  Wish I had it back now.

The most difficult distance in golf is the six inches between your ears.
