Hey guys,

So im hitting the ball better than ever. finally figured it out! I'm freaking crushing it dead straight and can even shape shots. feeling like i could potentially break 80 or at least 85 since i suck at putting lol. ANYWAY, its not terrible but i will occasionally hit a fat shot or a thin shot. I'm thinking its from where i look when i hit the ball.. i tend to look at the ball, should i try maybe looking at the front edge of the ball? any suggestions are really appreciated. thanks

My suggestion right away is making sure the head stays centered and the weight or pressure is forward at impact.  Fat or thin shots are the same mistake, just different compensations.  The reason could be any number of factors.

Well if your thinning or hitting it fat, its probably the same problem. You probably hit it fat once then you don't want to do that again and hit it thin.

Hitting it fat, is caused by having your golf club bottom out before the ball. This is caused by lower body not getting enough forward, check out the sliding hips thread. Also, your upper center, (chest), is moving back in the downswing, the classic reverse C, this is a problem when your head dips as well. Thin shots can be caused by having your butt come close to the ball at impact, causing you to lift up, or if you have a chicken wing follow through, if that occurs early enough, you can thin a shot.

I would just post your video on the member's video section.. Its tough to tell with out seeing the swing.

Low point is behind the ball, usually dumping the wrist conditions and lengthening the radius of the swing (making the arc wider).  For a fat shot, the club crashes into the ground, for a thin shot the golfer will make a compensation, pull the elbows apart, stand up faster, so he doesn't hit it fat which results in a thin shot.  Or get lucky, hit it somewhere in between and hit a good one
