Welcome to the forum! I am still relatively new but everyone has been very welcoming and helpful!

As for a basic set of clubs it would depend on a variety of things, your confidence and feel of the clubs not at all being the least important.

There are a couple other forum threads on the site that go over allot of these things.

Just to name a few.

If you have already been playing and have a relatively consistent swing. And by consistent I do not mean perfect or anything like that. But a swing that you can generally replicate in most ways. Then possibly getting a minor club fitting where they can determine what club shaft flex and lengths would most suit you would be a good idea.  It is a major misconception that a clubfitting is for professionals and that it is expensive.  There are also lots of great forums on this site about these. Here are a few.

I hope this has helped you! If you have any questions feel free to ask. I am by no means a professional but I will try and give as good of information as I can. And if I don't know I will try to steer you into the right direction. There are many many knowledgeable people on this site!

Enjoy,

Mitch G
