Backing up a good round

Why is it so hard to back up a good round with another good round. This was not the first weekend where I've had a good round on Saturday and a bad round on Sunday. Since the weather has already turned I've put in some extra practice time this past week and on Saturday really hit the ball good and shot 79. I was excited about playing Sunday until the 5th hole and I was 7 over and managed to hack it around and card a 90. WTF!!! What's makes it so hard to shoot another good round? I'm sure it's mostly in my head, thinking too much about how good I "should" be playing. If breaking 80 causes a 90 the following day, I believe I would rather shoot two rounds of 85.

Your problem? You went out on Sunday thinking you just had to turn up to post a 77 or a 78. That's the worst thing you can do. You should never think beyond your opening drive on the first hole. Always stay in the present!

I bet you didn't turn up on Saturday thinking about your final score. I bet you took it one shot at a time and the final result was simply the sum of your shots.

Hey, it happens to the best of us. I've been there many a time. I shot a 78 on week and than an 88 the next on the same course. Thats golf! It even happens to the pros. Padraig Harriangton shot a 61 followed up by a 73 at the Transitions Championship. Happens at all skill levels.
