I don't know why i tried this, but i did. I was having the following problems. My hips would out race my body, forcing me to cut the the ball. Also my hands would get behind my body every once in a while. so i decided, what if i stopped thinking about my hands in the backswing and just think about rotating chest and stomach back. This had the effect of rotating my hips a bit more, probably extending my back leg more. But it also calmed down my hips, and synced up my swing. I had the best ball striking round of the year and in a long time. If it wasn't for a short game fiasco on one hole, i was probably looking at 2 over for 9 holes.

so those who have over active hips, or a disconnect, or get the hands to far behind them, stop thinking about hands or hips, and thinking about your spine, rotating around it. For me its easier to think of my stomach rotating..

For me - I make sure my hip stay still until the club (shoulders and arms) moves back past my back foot - then I let my hips turn.

It was a legendary breakthrough for me.

Of course, those who can afford to take great golf lessons would probably know that after an hour.

So your saying i didn't have a great golf lesson, that all golf swings should start like yours. Get over yourself please. each golf swing is to there own and no one method, style, feel is the same for each player.

My best ball striking in matters of distance and accuracy comes when I start my backswing with "dead hands", kinda Steve Stricker's.

This weekend I was struggling hard to hit the ball solidly and in one hole I drove the ball nice but nobody saw it, cos the tee shot is blind. Played a provisional one thinking of "dead hands". When we reached the balls, the second one was 80 yds. farther than the first one and both ind dead center of the fairway. Yep: 80yds!

This works for me

Thanks saevel the idea of rotating my stomach has really helped me connect.  I had the exact problem you described above.  I was completely disconnected.  This worked for me.

No, no, no. Sorry for the miscommunication on my part. That is not at all what I meant :)

I thought you were sharing your recent discovery about what you think about when making your backswing. I was simply trying to share a similar breakthrough. The comment about the "good golf lesson" was an attempt  at humor - that I finally made that discovery - that it took me sooooo long...I didn't think that you might take it to mean that I was commenting on your lesson.  Seriously. That's just not me at all.

Sorry for the miscue. I'll be more careful in the future.  Okay?

Oh please...you took this as a slight at you???

The poster was clearly not taking a shot at you, just adding to the conversation.

IMHO, it's you that needs to "get over yourself"

This works for me

Do you think "dead hands" on the backswing allows you to tense your hands together at impact resulting in distance gains?

    • Day 35 (15 Dec 25) - Short session today focused on exaggerated weight shift using left heel trigger.  Hit a few pitches using the process to help capture the feel.
    • Day 125 12-15 Half swings with flow drill. Focused on rhythm, loading trail side then getting to lead side correctly. Hit a few foam balls but mostly drilling without ball.
    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
