My question is, im grooving a new backswing shoulde plane thats steeper, do i need to replicate this on the downswing? it feels natural to do that from where my new backswing ends up, but feels as though i might end up smashing the club into the ground getting the right shoulder that far down on the down swing,......

Is this the right sorta feeling? im not to focused on the downswing as yet as i want the backswing plan to be grooved in before i jump ahead, but a general idea/consensus would be cool

I wouldn't worry about steepening the shoulders on the downswing. Doing the backswing pieces well "sets up" a lot of good things to happen. Doesn't mean that you'll never need to work on the downswing, it's just not the priority piece right now.

I can't necessarily confirm whether the feel is "right" or not. Going to feel a little different for everyone. I've known some players that feel like they're going to hit it five feet behind the ball and then they get over it when they start hitting it solid. Having said that, if you're feeling like you're going to smash the ground, I think you're on the right track.

sounds promising then lol, ive read through tons of member swing threads and a recurring theme is how they feel the new swing change but actually arent swinging much different as it takes so long to engrain, so im trying to not jump ahead to far to fast, but cant help be curious

im excited to hit balls tomorrow even if its just at 30% to see how it feels with a club weight in my hands,

Yes you're going about making the changes the right way. Going to be much easier to "own" your pieces by practicing at home, then doing 30% swings on the range mixed in with full speed swings.

When you hit balls tomorrow, don't be too results oriented as it relates to what the ball is doing. You may hit it great but just swinging at that speed is new to you. A bad shot doesn't mean, "this stuff doesn't work". I know you know that but good for other people reading to see it. Keep doing it and I think you'll see some success with how the picture changes.

thats what im trying to tell my friend whos coming, hes asked my plan it its simply 30%, steeper shoulders, shot result doesnt matter yet.

he doesnt get the "shot result doesnt matter" part, and to be honest without being on this forum neither would i, but it makes sense to when you imagine back to how you first started golf, it probably wasnt great but you stick at it till it works

people at work think im weird though cus we have massive mirrors in the loo's and every time someone walks in im there in a golf swing pose working on my shoulders,......hey who cares

Wow what a difference a few days and engraining a new swing feel makes,.........instead of good contact on 1/5 it was constantly good contact, every shot

instead of going hook/straight/push/draw/hook/push/top/top/thin.........................just straight fades everytime

I tried the 30% swing speed and just couldnt grasp it, slowing down so much seemed to only allow me way more time to do something wrong,

instead i took 3-4 slow practice swings getting the steeper shoulder feeling then tried to replicate it with a full shot, then repeated

unfortunately when i went to record my swing my phone died, but my buddy watched me for a while and agreed my shoulders were alot steeper than before, just need to engrain now so i dont have to think about it, just to do it

overall mega happy though!!

Good to hear things are better.

I will recommend not giving up completely on the 30% swings, at least do slow practice swings. It really will help. I've never seen someone make a slow swing and get in worse positions than their full speed swing. Kind of the point of doing it slow, you going at a pace that you're aware of what your body is doing so you can't "do anything wrong". Just my thoughts.

I'd work on two things.

- Left shoulder more down on the backswing. Get it "under" the chin.

- Don't rotate the face open on the takeaway, keep the right palm/club face pointing down. Example:

Also I merged your old thread with this one. Please don't start new swing threads, just add swings to your existing one, thanks.

Thank you for merging my swing threads together :) didnt realise i had one already its been that long!!

ahh i used to struggle with a flat backswing, left shoulder sounds good

didnt realise i was opening that much on the backswing? Will have a play with it, i often suffer from a pull though would this exacerbate it?

That part is less important than your shoulders.

I had made these images earlier this morning but then @mvmac beat my to posting (I was doing work in the basement hanging pictures and taking down a trampoline for the winter).

Here are the images:

01.jpg02.jpg

Your head moves because your shoulders turn too flat, which in turn makes you farther from the golf ball (thins), which means you have to try to shove your hands out (shanks).

You can also see how little you've moved the hips forward at impact, but I'd worry about that later on.

P.S. How did you go from playing 5-6 years to 18 years in only four years? :-)

No look again. It's nowhere near static. You start at 36° (pretty normal… most people are close to 35°), go to 21° at A4, and are somewhere between 36 and 21 at A7 (closer to 21, though).

The 36° line isn't close to the going up the middle of your body at A4 or A7.

Ah i see miss-interpreted your picture ??

would a steeper left shoulder going back keep my hands closer to my body on the downswing?

Yeah, but don't worry about that so much right now. They go out because you move away from the ball, so rather than whiff, they try to compensate.
