I'm having to use different grips for my driver and irons??

In order to square up impact with my driver, I have to take a very 'strong' grip. When I take the same grip with my irons it results in a draw shape, worst case scenario it ends up being a hook. So, I can correct it easily by taking a more neutral left hand grip with irons.

This has been good and bad. The good part is it's now very easy for me to move the ball right to left with irons, but the downside has been a lack of consistency and so far this season (still early season here in Ohio) I've been missing a lot of greens.

Anyone else experience anything like this?

In my Callaway stand bag:

9.5 Degree Taylormade Burner Superfast Adilla Voodoo shaft
3 Wood: Cleveland Launcher 15 degree Adilla Voodoo shaft
Irons 3-SW: Callaway X-14 Steelhead

Lob wedge: Cleveland 60 degree

Nah.  Where is your ball position with the driver?

Driver:  Callaway Diablo Octane 9.5*
3W:  Callaway GBB II 12.5*, 5W:  Callaway Diablo 18* Neutral
3H:  Callaway Razr X, 4H:  Callaway Razr X
5-PW:  Callaway X Tour
GW:  Callaway X Tour 54*, SW:  Callaway X Tour 58*
Putter:  Callaway ITrax, Scotty Cameron Studio Design 2, Ping Anser 4

Up in my stance, just inside my front foot. I don't think it's an issue of ball position with my driver, but it may be with my irons.

Maybe post some pics of your address positions with your driver and your irons.  Post the impact positions too if possible.  I'm making the assumption that you are swinging the irons and the driver pretty much the same since you have a single digit handicap.

I'm probably playing at a 10-12 handicap right now. That 8 was last season when I was playing my best. About half way through last year I really started struggling with my driver so I went and saw a pro. He had me strenghten my left hand. That solved my driver issues in about 15 minutes, but then I started to draw/hook my irons when I took the same grip.

So, to fix it, I started taking a weaker grip on irons and it works, but like I said, it's led to inconsistent approach shots which has really been costing my scores.

Good idea about the videos. I'll try to hit the range tonight and get this on tape.

its the same situation I deal with, exactly.  I don't really know the solution other than to do what works.  No one said you have to grip all the clubs the same way so...if it works, it works.

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

or that its simply just easier to square up a shorter club vs. a longer one.
