I am considering new irons to replace my ACER XK that I bought last year...  There are 2 main reasons for this decision.  1. I was told that my ACERs cannot be adjusted to the 2.25* flat that PiNG recommends and 2.  I ordered my irons 1" short and I now realize that was a bit drastic...  anyhow I am considering the G5 irons but I am not sure if a club that came out 7 years ago is worth the money... any thoughts would be appreciated.

I can get the g5s for $350

That's not horrible. If they work for you I'd say go with 'em.

There is barely any difference between the G5s and the G15s or G20s.  Several years ago (2006 maybe) I believe the G5s were rated the top game improvement club on the market.  So if you've been fitted and know exactly what you're looking for, they would be a safe bet from a bang for the buck perspective.

Good luck!

    • Day 83: Headed out to the valley for a 7/4 pool party where it was 108 degrees so didn’t feel like practicing. Did some indoor putting before bed after getting home.
    • Day 63 (4 Jul 24) -  long family day, did squeeze in some rolls of the putter.  Practiced lagging to set distances using the bedroom carpet as a “slow green.
    • I almost holed out from 220 on #18 yesterday at Trump National in Bedminster. It was 3’ from the hole. Unfortunately, it was the 9th green I hit. Sorry, but it was just too funny not to share 🤣
    • day 4, July 4th, did some drills inside due to the rain.
    • I wish I could play a round with you guys and get some pointers or feedback. The points brought up are awesome and I'm just on page 2 of the thread as a bad golfer who never keeps score out of frustration, (I'll start then abandon it once I blow up a hole) if I can drive effectively in the fairway, there's less chance the hole will go bad. No guarantee but less of a chance for people new to golf (I've played badly for many years) I'd say practice that tee shot and work on the rest at the course. Bad tee shot and there is no chance I'm going to have a successful hole Hit thousands of chips in the yard and pretty much no correlation to better chipping during the game. In fact, I'm getting worse with practice I think. So will now play once a week but little actual practice
