Has anyone tried this drill..

You set up at address with the ball to the left of your left foot. You then swing and try to hit down on the ball, which is obviously much harder to do as the ball is so far forward.

Do this 25 times then move the ball back to its normal position.

I've been working on the hip bump (per Erik's suggestions on this forum) for many months now and have been making crisper, ball-then-turf contact.  But I've noticed that I still tend to hit shorter irons a bit fat sometimes, and this is because I'm still somewhat "lazy" with these clubs.  Everything in the swing happens faster with a PW compared with a 5i say, and this can lead to failure to bump the hips, shift the weight and hit down on the ball.  It helps to open the stance a bit but the main thing is to really work on that hip bump even with the wedges - you'll like the results.

Of course it's less of a shift with the shorter irons but it's still critical to a crisp shot with good trajectory and backspin.
